Chapter 2318

Not feeling awkward at all, Marcus retracted his hand.

He sat back in his seat with composure, but his eyes did not break contact with Caroline.

Celine smiled and said, “Caroline, Dad chose Marcus for you. You should try and get along with

Marcus. Although the Wrights aren’t super rich and powerful, their assets are worth at least a few

million dollars.

“Marcus’s parents don’t mind their son taking our family’s name. You know it’s hard to find a man to

take the wife’s family name. Dad immediately thought of you when Marcus was happy to compromise.

See how good Dad is to you.”

Celine was gloating.

The Fishers encouraged Celine to pursue Hayden. Although Celine had not made much progress, her

family demonstrated their support for her to marry into wealth and power. Yet, Hunter found a mediocre

husband for Caroline.

Sure, the Wrights were worth several millions, and to an ordinary family, the Wrights were wealthy.

However, they were considered poor to the rich and powerful like the Fishers.

The difference in treatment put Celine in a good mood. She no longer felt resentful of Madam Fishers’

recent criticisms. Her adoptive parents had her best interest in mind.

It made sense since Celine grew up in the Fisher family. She was well-loved by her adoptive parents

and brothers. She was supposed to be raised as the successor of the family.

Caroline had only been back with the family for a little over a year and had nothing on her.

Emma chimed in and praised, “Caroline, Marcus is a good man. Although The Wrights don’t have as

much influence and power as us, you must still find a husband to marry into the family since you’re

going to take over the household.

“Marcus is right for you. We know you are close to Mr. Queen, but he’s not someone you should go

after. He’s a brilliant man, and he won’t take our family name or marry you.

“Besides, Marcus said that he’ll help you run the house like Hunter does if you’re happy to go out with

him.”

Hunter married into the Fisher family decades ago, and he had been on top of the household affairs.

The more important matters were left to Madam Fisher.

In any case, Hunter’s responsibility was to get Madam Fisher pregnant, at least until they had a

daughter.

Caroline said callously, “Thank you, but I have no intention to marry for the time being. It’s hard enough

to keep up with work. I don’t have time to date.”

Hunter uttered, “Caroline, dating won’t distract you from your work. Marcus is an honest, good man.

He’ll be respectful and considerate to you if you go out with him. He will be there when you need him

and stay away when you don’t.

“You’re not getting any younger. You don’t even have a boyfriend. Since you’re not familiar with the

scene in Jensburg, it will be tough to find Mr. Right on your own. I thought I should play the

matchmaker since Marcus is a good candidate.

“Don’t worry. You’re my daughter. I won’t do anything to harm you.”novelbin

Marcus was handsome and possessed other superficial qualities that made him compatible with

Caroline. However, Marcus was a spoiled brat who lacked ambition. He had been living off his parents'

money and had no desire to make something of himself.

His parents were happy to see him marry into the Fisher family because they were tired of disciplining

him. They had given up on him and were glad that someone else was willing to take him on.

Besides, the Wrights knew of the Fishers.

While the Fishers barely had a slice of the upper crust, they were old money.

Marcus was the black sheep of the family, so if he were to marry Caroline, he could get money from the

Fishers instead of spending theirs.

Madam Fisher kept a tight rein on her husband's spending, only giving him five hundred dollars a day. If

Caroline was as responsible as her mother, the Wrights' son would have no money to spend on

gambling or women. By marrying their son to Caroline, they would be hitting two birds with one stone—

getting a daughter-in-law and helping their son to overcome his bad habits.

Apart from Madam Fisher, the rest of the family members gave their two cents, complimenting Marcus

and setting Caroline up with him.

Once everybody said their piece, Caroline stressed, “Dad, I’m not even thirty. I’m not in a hurry to get

married. How old was Mom when she married you?”
