Chapter 2196

Whenever her family butchered a chicken, she only ate the chicken thighs and wingettes. She would

not eat the other parts.

“Young mothers these days rarely experience nutrient deficiencies after giving birth. In the past, I could

only eat a few chickens in the month after I gave birth. I wasn’t as fortunate as you are right now. You

bought so many things back again too. I’ve said not to buy anything. It’s a waste of money, and your

dad and I can’t finish them.”

Mrs. Sox scolded her daughter for buying gifts again.

Despite saying so, she still took the bags from her daughter’s hand. She was worried it would tire her

daughter out.

After entering the house, Carlson went into the kitchen and took out extra sets of plates and cutleries.

The two bodyguards had their lunch there too.

They knew the Soxes never put on airs and were not particular about rules. If they did not sit and have

lunch together, Mr. Bucham’s father-in-law would get angry too.

“Is there bread, Mom? I want to have a sandwich.”

Jasmine spotted her mom’s homemade pickles on the dining table. She sat and told her mom, “I’m

craving bread and pickles.”

She could never eat those things in her in-laws’ house.

The dietician did not allow her to eat pickles.

Her mother-in-law also said she had to cut down on preserved food.

Therefore, Jasmine’s family never included any homemade preserved food in the things they would

send over to her.

“I baked some bread this morning. I’ll toast it now if you want some.”

Mrs. Sox glanced at her son-in-law as she spoke.

Her daughter had married into a wealthy family. Although her son-in-law was nice, she was worried he

would dislike the food.

Mrs. Sox knew her daughter’s three meals in her in-laws’ house were arranged by a dietician.

Everything Jasmine ate was of high quality.

Mrs. Sox did not have to cook for Jasmine whenever she worked at the bookstore either. Her son-in-

law or his parents would arrange for someone to deliver food to Jasmine.

Josh knew what his mother-in-law was thinking. He smiled and said, “Mom, I want a sandwich with

pickles like Jasmine. The weather’s so hot that I don’t want to eat a heavy meal. I just want a light

sandwich.”

“I’ll toast the bread then. I made it this morning. It’s still fresh. You didn’t call me beforehand to tell me

you were coming back. I would’ve baked a fresh loaf for you two,” Mrs. Sox said while she entered the

kitchen to toast the bread.

There was an AC in the living area, but Mr. and Mrs. Sox seldom turned it on. They usually used the

fan.

With Josh around, Carlson quickly shut the windows and turned on the AC in the living area.

Mrs. Sox brought the toasted bread and the other ingredients out. She wanted her daughter and son-

in-law to put as many ingredients as they liked into the sandwich.novelbin

Jasmine had always had a good appetite. She could eat and sleep well even after getting pregnant too.

She had two servings of sandwiches. When she wanted to go for a third, Mrs. Sox told her, “Don’t stuff

yourself, Jasmine. You’ll feel sick later.”

“Okay. I’ll stop eating, but I’ll have some more pickles. Your pickles are delicious, Mom.”

“Eating it occasionally is fine, but you mustn’t overeat.”

Mrs. Sox said, “If your dietician finds out…”

She did not finish her sentence.

If the dietician knew that Jasmine did not eat according to the arranged recipes but had bread with

pickles, she would start nagging and even complain to Josh’s mother.

Mrs. Bucham was considered an open-minded parent. No matter who Josh fancied, she would give his

marriage her blessing as long as her son was happy.

She was satisfied with Jasmine as her daughter-in-law.

However, their daily habits differed a lot. Jasmine dared not expect her mother-in-law to accommodate

her. It was mainly her adapting to her mother-in-law’s habits. As time passed, Jasmine felt she was not

as comfortable as her best friend.

In the past, Jasmine could still reassure herself that it was because of her pregnancy.

However, Serenity had gotten pregnant, and Grandma May’s attitude reflected the York family’s

mindset.

Only then did Jasmine feel she had less freedom than her friend had.

Being the daughter-in-law of a wealthy family was not easy.

Nevertheless, Jasmine’s situation was good enough. Some people were worse off than her.

She heard that many women who married into wealthy families could only assist their husbands and

educate their children at home. They were not allowed to expose themselves to the public excessively.

Their in-laws would also criticize them for wanting to start their business or open a store. Ultimately,

they had no choice but to close their stores and give up on running a business for the sake of the

family’s harmony.
