Chapter 1848

Zachary had no choice but to push Duncan to a cool place and told him, “You can’t be here alone, novelbin

Duncan. It’s getting hotter, you’ll get heatstroke in this scorching sun.”

Duncan wiped the sweat off his face and replied, “It was still shady when I got here.”

However, as time passed, the sun gradually moved toward a spot that exposed Duncan to direct

sunlight.

“I have water and napkins in a bag attached to my wheelchair,” said Duncan.

Zachary quickly unhooked the bag behind the wheelchair and took out a bottle of water, along with

some napkins, and handed them over to Duncan. Zachary nagged, “You have to pick a better time to

practice your walking. Preferably at dusk or dawn, when the sun is not scorching. It’ll be cooler and

more suitable for your practice.”

The trees in the backyard made a pleasant shade, which made it a cool and refreshing place to hang

around.

“Also, you shouldn’t come out alone. No one will know if something happens.”

After Duncan wiped off his sweat and drank half a bottle of water, he said, “I’ve got a mobile phone with

me. I’ll call them and ask them to push me back to the house if I can’t stand it anymore.

“You know what, Zachary? I want to be fully recovered as soon as possible and be able to stand up

and walk again. I want to pursue Liberty again.”

Liberty was the reason Duncan was so impatient.

Hank was currently lying in the ICU with an uncertain fate, so he did not have to worry about anyone

competing with him for Liberty at the moment. However, as Liberty became more outstanding by the

day, he worried that while he was recuperating, there may be other pursuers vying for her attention.

Duncan would not be at ease until he could marry Liberty.

“I know you want a quick recovery and get back to normal, Duncan. But you can’t be too impatient. The

doctor said you need to rest for a while before starting rehabilitation. It might have the opposite effect

on you if you rush it.

“Don’t worry about Liberty. There won’t be any new suitors around her for the time being. She’s busy

with her own business and making money. She doesn’t have the time or inclination to think about

relationships. Besides, she has always emphasized that she doesn’t want to get married again.”

Zachary comforted his good friend.

Duncan was still worried. After all, humans could change. Liberty did not want to remarry now.

However, she could reconsider if she met someone she liked very much, who by chance accepted

Sonny as his own son.

“What brings you here today?”

Duncan changed the topic. “Why is your wife not with you?”

Duncan realized after that something was off with his good friend.

Zachary was well renowned for being a wife’s pet as he always doted on his wife. Usually, on

weekdays, he would still always be seen with Serenity. As it was a weekend, there was no need to

work, so logically, Zachary should be following Serenity around like her accessory. Why would he turn

up alone?

Zachary put up a cool front and said, “Don’t say a word. My wife has been taken away. I’m as pitiful as

you are right now, away from the women we love.”

Duncan turned his head toward Zachary and looked at him with an astonished expression. “Who was

that man? Was he so amazing that he was able to run away with your wife? Is he better looking than

you, more outstanding than you, or does he love Serenity more than you?”

In Duncan’s eyes, Zachary was the only man who loved Serenity the most.

Zachary said with a bitter smile, “That person is not a man, but a woman. She is very impressive, even

more so than me. She could win over my wife without breaking a sweat. Now, my wife had changed her

phone number without my knowledge, she stopped texting me and had completely abandoned me.”

Zachary understood why his nana did him dirty from the words of his sister-in-law.

It turned out that it was because he always complained about Serenity, and that enraged his nana. She

thought that he was extremely ungrateful, so she took Serenity away from him, to let him know what it

felt like to be neglected.

As he said, Grandma May would not strike without reason.

However, he never thought that his little whinings about Serenity sparked Grandma May’s protective

nature toward Seren.

Sure enough, in his nana’s eyes, her granddaughter-in-law was the most precious to her. Her

granddaughter-in-law was to be doted on, while her grandson was to be taught a lesson.
