Chapter 1592

Durand was also a former military man himself. Having served under Mr. Davier for so many years,Durand had definitely experienced quite a lot.

It was due to his experience that he was able to calm down.

In a deep voice, he said, “We can't turn back. It's like you've said, Ms. Davier. Nathan is definitelynot going to let you off the hook.”

“However, even if we were to defy them and make a run for Brimmopolis, it wouldn't work either.”

“The two fighter jets were ordered to take action. As such, they will have no qualms about shootingus down. After all, that's a military order.”

Phoebe was still behaving like a scalded cat. “So what the heck are we supposed to do if we can'tcontinue flying or turn back?

Just then, something connected in Durand's head as he suddenly thought of a way out of this mess.

“I've got it!” said Durand excitedly.

“Well? Spit it out!”

“We'll just pretend to turn back.”

Phoebe and others were stunned. “What do you mean 'pretend' to turn back?”

Durand smiled. “We're currently still within the borders of the South, but no longer in the vicinity ofChanning.” “I think we can agree to turn back. But on the way back, we should turn off one of theengines and claim that we've had an accident. I don't know, say we've hit a bird or something. Theimpact would have damaged the engine, so we can't possibly fly back to Channing in this state.”

Phoebe's eyes widened, her gaze a mix of hope and anxiety. “An emergency landing? Here?”

Durand nodded. “We'll land in the South, at the Alberesque Airport specifically.”

“The current commander-in-chief of the

Alberesque District is General Vadim Normandy, who just sworn into office. He is a protege of Mr.Davier.”

“Let's contact him in advance. He will definitely not let anything happen to you, and he will protectyou if you're landed safely within his boundaries. After that, we'll be able to have a smooth trip backto Brimmopolis.”

“Well, we'll go with your suggestion then, Durand,” said Phoebe excitedly. “Let's hope this works.”

Meanwhile, at the military base in Channing city, Nathan, and General Wilson were sitting down fora cup of tea.

Callan Stone, who was the captain of the National Guard, hurried in with a report on the situation.“We've received updates on the two fighter jets hunting down Phoebe Davier.”

Nathan and General Wilson shared a look.

Had Phoebe chosen death? Was she shot down?

“An update, you say?” asked Nathan mildly.

“Well, General, Phoebe's aircraft has confirmed that it will turn back.”

“However, during the return flight, the aircraft has reported an engine malfunction, citing an accidentwith an eagle.”

“They've claimed that the collision had damaged the engine. Being in a critical condition, they wereunable to make the full trip to Channing, opting for an emergency landing in the nearby AlberesqueCity instead.”

“The two fighter jets are unable to make a judgment call and are awaiting further instructions, Sir.”

“They hit a goddamn eagle or a bird at that altitude?” Nathan sneered. “Isn't that too much of acoincidence?”novelbin

“Penny for your thoughts, General Wilson?”

General Wilson groaned a little and said, “Ms. Davier knows that you are angry and that you'veeffectively given her a death sentence by ordering her return to Channing.”

“However, she didn't have the gall to continue on to Brimmopolis and chose the safer option oflanding in Alberesque instead.

“If I remember correctly, Vadim Normandy, the commander-in-chief of the military region, was justsworn in quite recently. He is a protege of Mr. Davier.”

“I'm assuming that this is a last-ditch effort to plead for asylum and escape whatever judgement thatawaits her.”

Nathan nodded. “Yes, I was more or less thinking the same thing.”

“Shoot them down now or let them land in Alberesque—I'll leave that decision to you.” With that,General Wilson finished what he had to say.

Nathan mulled over the current situation for a bit before making a decision. “If she insists on goingher own way, I couldn't care less if you shot her down.”

“However, if I shoot her down now, it'll reflect poorly on me. Since her claims of returning and theplane malfunction are on the record, I cannot just attack her like that.”

Nathan paused again and sneered. “Well, let her land there.”

“If she thinks Vadim Normandy can protect her, she's sorely mistaken.”
