Chapter 1585

In the ward, Penny was lying on the bed, clad in a hospital gown.

When she regained consciousness, she immediately saw Nathan waiting by her bed.novelbin

Forcing a smile, she uttered weakly. “Hubby, am still alive?”

Nathan clamped his emotions down and consoled her. “Of course. We promised to live happily everafter, right?”

Penny held his hand, taking in the warmth of his body. “I thought I won't get to see you and Queenieanymore,” she revealed. “In the end, you rushed into the raging flames to save me.”

Her voice was small. “Hubby, it feels so great to ))

see you.

She pulled Nathan's hand and placed it right next to her cheek affectionately.

But soon, she realized Nathan seemed occupied.

“What's wrong?” she inquired.

Nathan then relayed the doctor's words to her.

When Penny found out the doctor told them to be prepared as she might not be able to keep thebaby, she burst into tears.

Struggling to sit up, she flung her arms around Nathan and wailed pitifully.

Nathan comforted her gently. “Don't be sad. The doctor said there might be a chance. They aredoing their best to protect the baby.”

Penny choked out. “It must not be an optimistic situation. Otherwise, the doctor wouldn't have askedus to be prepared.” “Hubby,” she wailed. “I pity our baby! If he or she leaves us...”

“Our angel will be born into another family,” said Nathan in an attempt to soothe her. “Anothercouple will be overjoyed to be blessed with our angel.”

He added, “But we won't be this unlucky. I believe good things happen to good people. Our babywill be safe.”

“Mm!” Penny tightened her arms and mumbled in response.

An hour later, Penny calmed down under Nathan's gentle murmurs and fell asleep.

He came out of her ward to inform his in-laws and Kylie to take care of her.

The other relatives were told to head home. Nathan went to receive treatment, accompanied by Avaand the others.

When his treatment came to an end, Colin entered and reported in a low voice. “General, I need toreport something.”

Nathan dismissed the others with a wave. Colin, Ava and the Elite Eight remained in the room.

“Go ahead,” said Nathan.

“Three crew members lost their lives after the helicopter, which departed from Channing MilitaryBase, crashed back there,” Colin reported.

“Award the three soldiers who sacrificed with first-class merits, compensation and console theirfamilies well.”

“Understood,” Colin answered. “One more thing.”

“What is it?” asked Nathan.

“Someone heard gunshots at the scene. The initial report shows that someone had fired shots atthe helicopter which caused it to crash.”

Upon hearing his words, Nathan's jaw hardened. “I knew something was amiss. But, as I wasworried for Penny, I didn't think too much about it.”

“I can't believe someone fired the shots on purpose,” he declared angrily.

“We believe someone set the orphanage on fire deliberately,” revealed Colin. “The one whocommitted arson should be connected to the person who shot the helicopter.”

“Their target should be either you or Mrs.

Cross,” he concluded.

A tinge of murderous intention flashed across Nathan's face. “After I reunited with my wife anddaughter, I've softened a lot. They must've forgotten how ruthless I can be.”

“Relay my orders!” he commanded. “Investigate this thoroughly. No matter who the culprit is, he orshe must pay dearly!”

“Yes, Sir!” Colin took his order.

The consequences of the General getting angry were too dreadful.

Many departments were involved in the investigation. Even the Secret Service sent their men to aidin the investigation.
