Chapter 1582

Tears welled up in Ava's eyes at her words. She realized she couldn't persuade Penny to leave.

Wiping her tears away, she regained her composure and shouted, “Everyone from Cross Group, listen. Let's help the kids who have fainted from inhaling too much smoke and Ms. Molven to get onthe aerial ladder. We'll stay behind with Mrs. Cross.”

The others were touched by Penny's decision.

The executives immediately vowed to let the elderly and the young escape first.novelbin

Everyone put their act together to help out.

Soon, the aerial ladder descended with Dorthea and a few unconscious orphans.

The reporters clicked on their cameras furiously to record this scene. When the onlookers realizedthe first batch of rescued victims was coming down, they immediately cheered.

Curious, the reporters began reporting. “We received news that the president of Cross Group,Penny Smith, was trapped inside, alongside others from the orphanage. Why isn't she among thefirst ones to get rescued?”

The reporters were shocked, let alone Santiago and Phoebe, who were hiding in their car.

As the aerial ladder brought more and more trapped victims down, soon, most of the kids had beenrescued.

Alas, the fire had already spread to the seventh floor by now.

Penny was still nowhere to be seen.

Phoebe sneered. “Ha! She must've told others to escape first. Look, the fire is engulfing the buildingnow. Even if she isn't burned to death, she would've died from inhaling too much smoke.”

Santiago was all smiles. “That's what we want, right?”

The situation was getting out of hand.

Ava dashed back and forth to place the kids on the aerial ladder.

By now, only a few of them were still trapped up there.

Her clothes were drenched with sweat as she picked a child up together with Kylie, who had passedout by now, to the aerial ladder by the window.

She was right next to the window when a wooden plank beneath her crumbled into ashes. Thebuilding was about to collapse anytime.

In the nick of time, Ava let out a roar and grabbed Kylie and the kid before leaping onto the aerialladder.

Crash! A loud and sickening sound was heard as the windowpane shattered into pieces.

When Ava landed on the aerial ladder with the kid and Kylie, the ladder immediately descended.

Ava's expression turned ghastly. As the aerial ladder moved away from the fire engulfed building, she screamed out loud. “Wait a minute! Don't go down! Mrs. Cross is still inside!”

Alas, the firefighter didn't hear her. The flames were too dangerous, so he hurriedly steered theladder away from the scene.

It was a full-blown inferno on the seventh floor.

As smoke and raging flames surrounded Penny, she became aware of the fact that everyone hadescaped except for her.

She had held on until now because of the baby in her belly and her husband, but her defensecrumbled instantly when she realized she was all alone.

In a daze, Penny stared at the smoldering flames in devastation. Hubby, Queenie, goodbye for now.I'm so reluctant to leave you.

Collapsing onto the ground, her eyes fluttered shut. Hubby, where are you?

All of a sudden, a deafening whirring sound came from the sky.

There was a military helicopter heading straight toward the burning building.

The reporters, firefighters, and the onlookers gasped in surprise.

Once the helicopter got close enough to the burning building, someone leaped out from thepassenger seat into the ravaging flames, to everyone's horror.

It was Nathan.

Before Penny lost consciousness, Nathan appeared in her sight out of nowhere. She forced herheavy lids open and mumbled, “Hubby, is it really you?”
