The leader of the firefighters went by the name of Rolf. He commanded his team members. “Quick, quick! We need to rescue the trapped people as quickly as possible!”

“According to the information we gained, Penny Smith, the executives from Cross Group, and overtwo hundred orphans are trapped in the building. We need to save them swiftly.”

The firefighters took action promptly. They sprayed water on the fire while putting up the ladder tocarry out the rescue mission.

Rolf's expression clouded over as he studied the building on fire. There were seven floorsaltogether, but the fire had already spread to the fifth floor.

He was worried as the trapped victims were in grave danger.

Calmly, he ordered, “Hurry!”

The reporters held up their cameras and recorded the fire to be broadcasted live.

Phoebe, who was still in her vehicle, frowned unhappily at the sight. “They came sooner than Iexpected. I thought the wooden building would collapse before the rescue team arrives!”

“Penny Smith is trapped inside. She's the wife of the General. Besides, there are over two hundredorphans there, too. Of course, they will hurry over as soon as possible,” explained Santiago.

“But the fire is spreading too quickly. Even if the firefighters try their best, they might fail to save thevictims. Let's wait and see.”

As he spoke, the aerial ladder had already been extended.

The firefighters deftly used the aerial ladder to enter the top floor to rescue the trapped victims.

The fire hadn't reached the seventh floor as of now, but thick smoke was billowing everywhere.Penny and the rest were about to pass out due to a lack of oxygen in the surrounding. Some kidswho were weaker were already unconscious by now.

Excess smoke inhalation could result in death.

Everyone was elated when they saw the aerial ladder appearing outside the window.

Like a drowning man who had just gotten ahold of a floating plank, they rushed toward it withouthesitation.

Their actions caused the scene to turn chaotic.

Sensing an incoming stampede, Ava yelled. “Everyone, stop! If we all rush to get onto the aerialladder, we'll all die here. None of us will survive."

Dorthea covered her nose and urged, “Children, let's step back. Ms. Smith and her staff came todonate funds and items. She even offered to build us a new building. They are trapped herebecause of their concern for us.”

She declared, “We can't be ungrateful and escape ahead of them. Even if we survive, we'll be livingwith guilt forever. Let Ms. Smith and her staff head down first!”

Dorthea was well-respected by everyone in the orphanage.

After her announcement, her staff and the kids stepped back to make way for Penny and hercompany.

One manager shouted anxiously, “Our superior should leave first. Ms. Smith, we'll leave after

I ” you!

Penny was feeling dizzy from the thick smoke engulfing the building. After all, she was pregnantnow.

However, she stood rooted to the spot.

Clenching her teeth, she gritted out. “No. There are elderly people and children here. I shouldn't goahead of them. I'm your leader, so I can't embarrass my husband.”

“Listen to me. Ms. Molven, leave with the kids. I'll be the last one to leave.”

Ava and the executives from Cross Group panicked at her words.

“Mrs. Cross, how could you leave last?” Ava blurted out anxiously. “What if something happens toyou? What would I tell the general?”

Penny was firm. “How could I escape ahead of the elderly and the young during such times?”

“Look, there are so many reporters out there. My husband's a hero. If I run before the elderly andthe young, that would smear his reputation.”

“I've made up my mind. Ms. Molven, get on the aerial ladder and leave with the kids. The fire isspreading quickly, so we shouldn't waste our time bickering here.”
