Chapter 1476 You Are Not Worthy Of My Salute

Jasper turned his head to face Hayden and asked curiously, "Sir, why are we travelling all the wayhere to Channing from Mayberry?"

Hayden, a good-looking man with a dignified stature, replied smilingly, "To meet a friend."novelbin

Jasper was intrigued. "Is your friend a girl?"

"How did you know?" He blurted in surprise.

Jasper teased, "It's your girlfriend, isn't it?”

"You're talking nonsense!"

Jasper shot him a meaningful smile. "Sir, you can't hide anything from me. If you're not here to meetyour girlfriend, why are you all dressed up? You even polished your leather shoes and used colognetoday!"

Hayden shot him a resigned smile. "It really is just a friend. I knew her a few years ago when I wasthe military instructor in her university."

"I understand now. But Sir, you're a handsome and successful man with a military background...You're a lady-killer! It's as easy as snapping your fingers to make her your girlfriend," Jasper said, giving him a playful punch on the arm.

Hayden reminded him, "You can fool around out here, but don't speak out of line in front of her.Don't spoil my chances.”

"Fine. But why didn't you chase after her at that time? Why did you wait until now?" asked Jasper.

Hayden reminisced for a while before pouring out the whole story to Jasper, "At that time, she wasstill a university student and I was her instructor; it was inappropriate for a teacher to date hisstudent. I went back to the military base after the military training ended. She was always at theback of my mind even when I was occupied with heavy training missions. It jogged my memorywhen I saw her interview in a business and finance tv show, so...” "So you travelled all the way hereto meet her," Jasper chimed in. "You've talked a lot, but you still haven't told me who she is..."

Hayden replied, "Her name is Penny Smith. She's the CEO of Cross Group, but I guess you don'tknow her."

"I know her. She's the Business Goddess, isn't she?" Of course, Jasper had heard of her; she was abig cheese in the business world, known as the Business Goddess. With a peculiar expression, hechewed the cud before saying, "But I heard she's married."

Hayden narrowed his eyes. "I know. She's the only daughter in her family, so she was forced to findher parents a live-in son-in-law. That's why she married herself to a kept man. I don't care if she'smarried!"

You don't?

Jasper's face formed a twisted expression upon hearing his words. He was about to ask whetherHayden was going after Penny's hundred billion net worth, but he managed to swallow his words asit was better for him to not lay it bare. If he did,

Hayden would definitely get mad at him.

Forcing a simpering smile on his face, he remarked, "Sir, it looks like you truly love her!"

Hayden soon led Jasper and a dozen of his subordinates into the restaurant.

He fixed his lecherous gaze on Penny dressed in a sheath dress.

Not only is Penny beautiful, but she is also filthy rich. I can get both wealth and a beautiful lady inmy arms once she becomes my woman. The Howard family will also prosper and become one ofthe most prominent families!

With a confident grin, he approached their table and greeted Penny, "Hi, Penny!"

Penny was slightly stunned to see Hayden. She exclaimed, "Oh? You're Instructor Howard from theuniversity!"

"It has been a long time since we last saw each other!" Hayden held out his hand for a handshake.

Penny was stumped, but she quickly responded, "I'm sorry, Instructor Howard. My husband doesn'tlike it when I shake hands with other men."

She then went on to introduce Nathan, "This is my husband, Nathan Cross."

Hayden narrowed his eyes as he regarded Nathan with total contempt. "So, you're Penny'shusband? Mr. Cross, what do you do for a living? Why didn't you order some better dishes wheneating out with your wife's family?"

Nathan slightly frowned when he sensed Hayden's hostility toward him; his gut feeling told him thatHayden was coveting after his wife.

He replied calmly, "I'm just a soldier."

A soldier?

Hayden sneered as he continued to pick on Nathan, "You said you're a soldier, but don't you knowthe military rules? Why aren't you saluting me? I demand you to stand up and give me a salute!"

Jasper and the others let out a harsh, derisive laugh; they all knew Hayden was trying to assert hisdominant position by deliberately humiliating Nathan in front of Penny.

Penny will definitely admire Hayden and despise Nathan once she sees the former's distinguishedair and the latter's wimpiness; Hayden would win her heart in no time.

However, to Hayden's surprise, Nathan sat still, ignoring his order. Instead, he retorted, "You are notworthy of my salute. According to the rules, you're supposed to be the one who salutes me."

What?

Hayden and his subordinates were shocked by Nathan's arrogant attitude.

Penny and her family quickly exchanged glances as they were baffled by the tension in the air.

Nathan was a general while Hayden only held a position as a lieutenant colonel, so what Nathansaid earlier was correct.

Hayden should be the one saluting Nathan since the latter was his superior.

Hayden quickly came to his senses and fumed, "I'm a lieutenant colonel, but you're asking me tosalute you? Who do you think you are? Tell me your military rank! The military will descend intolawlessness if everyone goes against the rules like you. I'll be sure to teach you a lesson today sothat you will learn how to behave in the future."
