Chapter 1801

“You’re overthinking things.”

“You don’t understand. Maxine’s a cunning and shrewd woman. Be on your guard, and never evermeet with her without my permission. I don’t want you falling into her trap.”

“Am I that dumb to you?” James scratched his nose.

“In any case, I don’t think you stand a chance against her when it comes to mind games,” Thea saidmatter-of-factly.

She knew what kind of person Maxine was. Back then, during her time at the Cadens, she resortedto underhanded tactics to secure her position as the family head. Then, she resorted to the sametricks when she helped James establish New Era Commerce. She cajoled and pressured the Leesand the Sullivans into siding with them.

“Fine, fine… I know my limits.”

“What? Are you annoyed now?”

“Of course not, Darling.” James hurriedly explained, “I will obey your command and stay far awayfrom Maxine. I promise I’ll never have any sort of relationship with her whatsoever.”

“That’s more like it.” Thea smiled.

For the next few days, James lived a peaceful and carefree life in the village. He paid no heed tothe Hansels and simply left everything to Callan. Once Favion’s condition stabilized three days later, the Hansels left.

One morning three days later, James was cultivating in the courtyard when he heard a knock on thedoor.

Knock! Knock! Knock!

James stopped what he was doing and headed to the gates to open them.

A man covered in blood stood outside. He was around twenty-five years old and covered in bruisesand cuts all over his body.

It was David Callahan.

“David! What on earth happened to you?”

Stunned, James hurriedly supported him.

“J-James… I finally found you… The Callahans are about to be annihilated. You have to help usout…”

“We’ll talk inside.”

James walked into the courtyard with David.

“What’s wrong, Darling?”novelbin

At that moment, Thea walked towards them.

When she saw David who was covered in blood, she hurried over to him and asked, “What’swrong? What happened to you?”

“Thea…” Upon seeing Thea, David burst into tears.

“Stop crying and tell me what happened exactly!” Thea said anxiously.

“Something terrible has happened.”

“What happened?” James asked.

“The Callahans have displeased a powerful and influential family. I only managed to escape withgreat difficulty. After escaping from that place, I came across a mysterious person who directed mehere, saying that you now live in this place. So, I hurriedly made my way over here.”

“A mysterious person?”

James and Thea froze.

Then, James asked, “What happened exactly? Who did the Callahans displease?”

“It’s all Tommy’s fault!” David gritted his teeth and cursed. “Two days ago, a woman caught his eye.Using the Callahans’ influence in Cansington, Tommy forcibly had his way with her. However, shewas a servant of a powerful family, who immediately went to the Callahans.

“Over the past three years, the Callahans have also become an ancient family, and many familymembers have become martial artists. Even without the dragon blood, we are still considered asignificant force in Cansington. However, we are a newly-emerged family that wouldn’t stand achance against the long-established families. Grandpa was sent flying in a single move, and manyfamily guards are now dead.”

David briefly explained the situation.

Upon hearing this, James and Thea’s expressions turned grim.

James could choose to turn a blind eye to the affairs of the ancient martial world. In this case, however, he could not shirk his responsibilities.

He looked at Thea and said, “Darling, stay here and don’t wander about outside. I’ll go have a lookat the situation. I’m curious to see who would dare lay a finger on the Callahans.”
