Chapter 1041

James finally had a brief understanding of Mr. Gabriel’s background.

He was also made aware of the potential chain reaction and severe consequences of trying to get rid of

Mr. Gabriel.

This plan was not something to be rushed into blindly.

After leaving Peace Mansion, James headed to the Cadens.

Maxine had already returned to the Cadens’ mansion.

In the courtyard, she kneeled beside Tobias, who was in the midst of doing a martial art squat.

Maxine kneeled for quite a while, but Tobias simply ignored her presence.

20 minutes later, Tobias finally stood up and took the towel handed to him by a servant. He walked

toward Maxine while wiping off his sweat.

“Get up,” he addressed her coldly.

Maxine stood up.

Tobias sat down in the backyard gazebo, picked up a tea cup from the stone table, and took a sip of

tea. Then, he asked lightly, “Tell me, what happened in Mount Littleroot?”

He had already seen the footage and knew about the events on Mount Littleroot, but there were many

things he could not comprehend. Thus, when he learned about Maxine’s return, he immediately

summoned her.novelbin

Maxine stood at his side with her head lowered and started explaining, “I-I went to Mount Littleroot at

the Western Border. There was an imposter disguised as you…”

She told Tobias the full details of what had transpired.

Bang!

Tobias slammed his palms angrily on the table.

Surprisingly, the table did not break.

However, when he raised his hands, a deep imprint from the impact had been left on the table.

Maxine instinctively trembled with fear.

“What’s wrong, Maxine? Is there perhaps something you’re hiding from me?”

Maxine immediately kneeled on the ground and blurted out. “I would never hide anything from you!”

“So, who was the imposter?” Tobias voice was razor sharp and his eyes burned like hot coals.

“I-I don’t know.”

“Are you still unwilling to tell me the truth?” Tobias roared furiously at her.

The deafening shout stunned Maxine to the point that she was unable to come up with a coherent

response.

After a few seconds, she took a deep, shaky breath and answered with her head hung low, “I-It was

Thea.”

Tobias had already guessed as much.

He had already obtained gotten word from the Cadens’ intelligence networks that Maxine returned to

Cansington with Thea. Additionally, the powerhouses at Mount Litteroot were traced to the God-King

Palace.

“My dear Maxine. So, you were the one who suggested that Thea impersonate me and bring along her

men from the God-King Palace to Mount Littleroot. Did you not think that this would show the world that

the God-King Palace was affiliated with the Cadens? Didn’t you think that doing so would only make us

more enemies? Don’t you think we already have enough enemies?”

“I-I was left with no other option, Grandpa.”

“And what a great option you’ve chosen.” Tobias’ face was filled with anger as he spat sarcastically.

“I’ve got another question. Who is the elderly man that injured Donovan? Was it Thomas in disguise?”

“I don’t know, Grandpa.” Maxine shook her head repeatedly as she answered quietly.

Then, she continued, “However, I’m quite positive it was him.”

She thought for a moment and explained, “After James returned to Cansington, he claimed that a

mysterious man rescued him. I think this very same mysterious person must also be the one that

fought against Donovan. Plus, the only person in this world who’d help James and Thea is Thomas.

Hearing this, Tobias' expression became grim. He muttered to himself doubtfully, “Could Thomas really

be alive?”

Tobias knit his brow as he thought.

After pondering for a while, he asked, “If that person was indeed Thomas Caden, how could he have

known about the Blithe Fist of Abomination?

The ordeal at Mount Littleroot had gone viral.

It was no longer a secret that an outsider had acquired the Blithes' signature martial art skill.

Everyone was curious about the identity of the person that injured Donovan.

However, no one would have suspected Thomas being the one behind it.

However, Tobias knew a lot of secrets, including the fact that Thomas was the one that founded the

God-King Palace and that Thea led elites from the God-King Palace to Mount Littleroot while

impersonating Tobias. This gave him a strong suspicion that the mysterious elderly man was Thomas.

“G-Grandpa, I truly don’t have the answer to your question.”

Maxine continued kneeling on the ground, not daring to look Tobias in the eye.

She was afraid that Tobias would immediately see through her lies.
