Ian asked Sean about it sometime after that and learned that Simon was in serious debt. Leah couldindeed help him pay back the debt, but if she did, she wouldn't have much money left. One could onlyimagine the amount.

Cindy was still a little bothered. "I wonder what Leah was thinking at the end. Maybe she was indespair, and she regretted a lot of things."

Cindy thought for a bit, then said, "What about Sally? Did she go back? She should know about thisalready, right?"
Ian didn't know about Sally, either. She should have heard of this incident already, and he felt thatSimon would have contacted Sally before Leah's passing. It wasn't for any other reason. Judging bySimon's personality, if he couldn't get money from Leah, he would've gone to Sally for help.
Ian simply said, "Who knows? I don't care if she knew about it or not; things had turned out like this,anyway. There's nothing she can do about it now."
Now that Cindy thought about it, Sally was quite pitiful too. Sally wasn't the nicest person, but sherepented eventually. However, she still ended up in an unpleasant situation. It's not a good ending, butneither is it bad.
Ian didn't want to talk too much on this topic, so he moved on to ask about her work and if things weregoing smoothly.
Cindy thought for a bit, then told him about Lucy. She had never told Ian about the details at work, sonow that she mentioned Lucy, Ian was stunned. "She's suspecting you and Gary?"
He snorted. "Am I worse than Gary somehow? Why would she feel like you'd abandon me to be with
Gary?" Recognizing the competitive tone in his voice, Cindy laughed as she said, "You're no worsethan him. You're awesome and much better than him. Any woman would pick you over him."
Ian could hear the sarcasm in Cindy's words. He snorted, then said stubbornly, "I'm better than him,and you can't do anything about it."
Cindy went along with him and agreed, a smile in her voice. Then, she turned serious as she said,"Yes, you're better than him in my eyes. To me, you're better than everyone else."
Her words sounded sincere and genuine, and Ian felt happy about that. He went to his bed and laydown. "I've caught up a lot with the progress over here, so I'll take leave in a few days to pick you upfrom your company."
Cindy couldn't help but chuckle. "Do you have to? It's okay. Everyone at work knows we're together. It'sunnecessary to show up on purpose."
That won't do. He was very concerned about this and couldn't just let it be. Even though Cindy didn'ttalk about it, he could more or less sense that Gary had been to their company twice.
