Chapter 2182

Gary let out a breath and continued, "I came across Lucy at a dinner party back then. After it ended, the person who held the party told me that he meant to play Cupid for the two of us. I have no ideawhat Lucy thought about it at that time, but since I wasn't aware of it, I didn't turn her down straightaway. Therefore, even though I made it clear to her later, she was still relentless. She's a littleobstinate. If you don't make something clear to her right away, it'll be pointless to do so later. As youcan see, I'm in a bit of trouble now."

He paused for a moment with a helpless expression. "I was the one who recommended you to yourcompany. She's aware of that, so I'm worried she'll make things difficult for you. Therefore, you have toturn her down directly so that you won't end up like me. Now, she won't believe me no matter what Isay."

Cindy pursed her lips and gave it some thought. "Do you really have no feelings for Miss Harrison atall? I think she's an amiable woman."

Gary was taken aback before shooting her a look. "What are you implying?"

Faced with the question, Cindy realized she had said something wrong. Her relationship with Gary wasawkward, to begin with, so she wasn't supposed to say anything about his love affairs.

Therefore, she quickly clasped her hands together and apologized to him. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't havesaid that."

Anyway, Gary didn't intend to settle the score with her. He just wanted to ask her whether Lucy wasmean to her.

He understood Lucy's temperament. She was petty and obstinate. Although Cindy had a boyfriend, shewas on good terms with Gary. Therefore, Lucy would likely pull a trick on her.

During the meal the day before, Lucy kept asking about Cindy. It wasn't until Gary appeared displeasedthat she relented. It was giving him a headache since it was hard to get rid of the woman. If such aperson went finding fault with Cindy, the latter would be troubled.

Nevertheless, Cindy wasn't affected much. She worked under Serena, after all. Even if Lucy wanted todeal with her, she wouldn't dare cross the line. Moreover, since Serena was aware of Lucy's intentions, she would stand up for Cindy.

Therefore, Cindy wasn't worried. Even if Serena was unable to help, it wasn't like she was a pushover. It was just a job, after all. Although the job was difficult to come by, she wouldn't make herself sufferand let anyone bully her.

As such, she wasn't concerned and even persuaded Gary not to worry too much. She didn't think Lucywas reckless and willful. Although Lucy came from a wealthy family, she knew what she could do andwhat she couldn't.

Furthermore, since she loved Gary, she wouldn't cross the line.

Gary found it funny that Cindy was placating him instead. Eventually, he shook his head and saidhelplessly, "I guess I'm just overly worried. Since you're not bothered by it, I can be at ease. If there'sany problem in the future, just contact me. I'll help you settle it."

Cindy nodded and hummed. "Alright. I got it."

Since she was sleepy, she appeared weary and wasn't in the mood for a long talk. novelbin

Gary realized that as well, but he just thought that Cindy was exhausted from work. He thoughtfullypersuaded her not to exert herself at work and that she had to get more rest.

Nothing major happened during lunch, and it only felt like a normal conversation between friends. Afterthey finished all the food, Gary sent her back to her company.

After getting out of the car, Cindy sighed. She initially wanted to go home and get some rest duringlunchtime. However, she didn't manage to do that, and there was still some time before she resumedwork. Therefore, she decided to get some shuteye in the office.
