Chapter 2166

Nonetheless, Cindy decided not to expose Gary even though she found it strange for him to be socautious. After all, if there was nothing out of the ordinary between them, Gary had no reason to ask ifLucy bad-mouthed him.

Therefore, she responded with a grunt and said, "I see. I haven't gotten along with her long enough tolearn anything new. Instead, we only talked to each other briefly, so there isn't much I can share abouther."

After hearing her words, Gary hesitated for a short while and replied, "Just make sure you treasureevery opportunity you get under Serena's tutelage. She is a fair and just woman whom I believe canget you where you want to be. As for Lucy, I'd advise you to stay as far away from her as possible. Sheand Serena may be alumni of the same school, but the two of them are not as friendly to each other asthey seem. Therefore, it wouldn't be appropriate if you get too close to Lucy. For your sake andSerena's, it's wiser and better for you to stay away from that woman." novelbin

Hmm, why is he telling me to stay away from Lucy as much as possible? I bet Gary must have had abitter history with Lucy or something, but I guess I can't just ask him what happened, can I? Cindynodded with an affirmative hum. "Alright, I understand."

As soon as she gave her terse reply, an awkward silence suddenly ensued with neither of themknowing what to say next. Overwhelmed by the awkwardness, Cindy hesitated for a while and said, "Ifthere is nothing else important, I need to get on with my cooking."

Gary replied with an affirmative hum and added, "Sure. If you ever come across any trouble at work, don't hesitate to give me a call. I'll surely be there to help."

Nonetheless, Cindy could tell that Gary wasn't referring to her work but instead implying someone whocould give her a hard time at work. However, she didn't turn him down as she thanked him politely andresponded affirmatively. Upon hanging up the call, she placed her phone down and heaved a sigh ofrelief. While it used to be relaxing for her to chat with Gary, she somehow found it stressful to chat withhim now.

In truth, Cindy didn't like to be in a difficult situation like this as she was decisive enough to draw a linebetween herself and anyone else she didn't like. Back when she was still a university student, shewould stay away from anyone she wasn't comfortable with, yet Gary was a dilemma she couldn't seemto get out of.

After that, Cindy lay back down on the couch until her phone rang again. When she realized it was anincoming call, she thought Gary was calling her again because of something else pressing. However, her depression disappeared the moment she saw the caller's name, and a big smile appeared instead. She then quickly reached for her phone and kept her eyes on Ian's name on the screen. "Hello! Areyou done with filming?" She picked up the call at once.

Ian smiled and replied, "I need to retake a few shots, but I figured I should take a few minutes to giveyou a call. So, have you missed me?"

As Cindy chatted with Ian, she became a different person compared to when she talked to Gary earlier. She then sat up straight on the couch and placed both legs on the table in a relaxing manner. "Yes, Ihave. Is that what you want to hear from me?"

Ian pretended to sigh. "Come on, I don't feel the sincerity in your tone at all."

Cindy chuckled happily. "What do you want me to do, then? Why don't you come back and find out how

sincere I look?"

"Are you sure you want me to come back? I don't think you can stand that, though," Ian respondedcheekily.

Cindy paused for a second and shrieked, "Hey, you rascal! You're getting naughty now, Ian."

Ian suppressed a chuckle, thinking all men had a hidden side that needed to be awakened by womenwithin them. Our instincts are like a magic beast that needs to be summoned. After that, Ian went on toask whether Cindy had eaten and what she was doing.
