It turned out that the message was sent by Gary. Upon a brief hesitation, Cindy tapped into themessage and read the content, realizing Gary was sending her his regards and asking her about herwork. However, she spent the next few moments just staring at the message, wondering whether sheshould reply to him. After all, she didn't want to have anything to do with Gary, but at the same time,she was also grateful for the things he had done for her at work. Because of that, she always struggledto draw a clear boundary between herself and Gary.
When she didn't reply, he sent another message and asked her whether she was done with her work,offering to give her a ride since he happened to be somewhere nearby. Upon reading his message, shequickly gave him a reply and told him she had left work.
'I'm sorry for the late reply. I was cooking, so I didn't hear the notification alert. I'm home now, butthanks for the offer, anyway.'
Not long after that, Cindy received an incoming call from Gary, whereupon she closed her eyes andhelplessly answered it. "How is your work so far? Any trouble?" Gary asked with a calm voice.
Cindy had no idea why Gary would think she had trouble at work, but nonetheless, she answered,"Everything is good so far. No trouble at all. I'm in good hands, thanks to Miss Warhol."
Gary hesitated for a short while and said, "Don't tell me anyone gave you a hard time."
"No, of course not. Why would anyone give me a hard time?" Cindy squinted and asked anotherquestion. "Why did you ask anyway? Don't tell me you have an enemy whose target is me because heor she can't drag you down."
"Your imaginativeness would make you a good author. What a waste of your talent." Gary joked inresponse after hearing Cindy's reply.
Like many other ladies, Cindy believed she was born with such imaginativeness, not to mention the factthat she was a designer. Therefore, she was proud of herself when she heard the way Gary describedher. Finding the vibe pleasant and uplifting as she chatted with Gary, she jokingly replied, "Well, thatcould be my next job if I left the industry one day."
"I'll be your number-one fan when you publish your masterpiece." Gary chuckled in amusement.
Um, this is getting a little too far. Cindy hesitated for a short while and asked, "By the way, is thereanything you want to talk to me about?"
"Nothing much, actually. There was a lady who just got hired not long ago, and I was worried that it'dbother you or something," Gary sighed and answered.
When Cindy heard that, she quickly thought of someone and asked, "Lucy?"
"Oh, it looks like you both have seen each other." Gary speculated. novelbin
Cindy curled her lips upward and smiled ambiguously. "Yup, we have. She knows Miss Warhol, and weran into each other during lunch."
"Did she say anything to you?" Gary sighed and asked.
Hmm. It looks like Gary knows a thing or two about Lucy. He seems wary of her. Could the two of themshare a personal history or something? Despite the thought of that, Cindy didn't speak ill behind Lucy's
back and only told Gary that Lucy briefly mentioned him when they ran into each other during lunch.
In spite of Cindy's simple reply, Gary desperately pressed on with his question in a sensitive manner."Did she say anything about me?"
"Nothing much. She only mentioned the time Mr. Kaufmann treated the three of us to a meal. Besides,she also heard from her colleagues that the three of us went out for a meal together. That's all. What’swrong? Do you guys have a history or something?"
Gary chuckled in response. "Nah, of course not. What kind of history do you think we have? We talkedto each other once a while ago. Then, I heard she joined your company yesterday. Anyway, I found hercharacter a little stubborn and eccentric, so I figured you might have something new to share aboutthat, which was why I asked."
