Chapter 2111

Cindy laughed and rubbed circles into Ian's back as she said softly, "Nonetheless, you have to gobecause you signed a contract. We can take a break after this show is over and done with."

She almost said that they could take a break after his contract was up, but she wasn't sure of the termshe and Hannah had discussed the last time, and she didn't think it was her place to mention plans forafter the contract had ended.

He hummed in response and did not say anything more.

After a while, Aurora beckoned them for dinner.

Ian had already packed up his things for the set, and he led Cindy out to the dining room. It was clearto see that he didn't have much of an appetite.

Aurora glanced at both of them and decided to bring up the incident from earlier that day. She onlywanted to give Cindy a heads-up, so she said, "The guy actually texted me and told me that he wasgoing to start a riot or something outside Ian's company. He threatened us and said that he wouldcause a huge scene even if he had no evidence whatsoever; either way, he was sure that Ian'sreputation would be wrecked after that."

Cindy raised a brow and found the man's rhetoric somewhat amusing. "He certainly isn't holding back,is he?"

Aurora had the same feeling as well. "He's been driven mad by the idea of ending up with a windfalland has abandoned all reason." After all, people often went wayward in the face of temptation. novelbin

Cindy sighed and muttered in response, "It's like he doesn't care at all that we have the right to takelegal action against him and sue him for damages. He does realize that he will actually have tocompensate us if it all comes down to a lawsuit, right?"

Ian chuckled. "I wouldn't put it past him to be so ignorant, but there's the possibility that he thinks hecan get away with refusing to pay us the damages. To be honest, I don't know what's going on in hishead; he seems to have his own erratic way of doing things and firmly believes that they will work out inhis favor." Having said this, he glanced over at Aurora and asked, "I'm kind of curious as to why youwould even be together with a man like him. He's not your usual type, is he?"

The man was neither good-looking nor well-mannered, and Aurora was way out of his league in allaspects.

Upon hearing this, Aurora sighed and said, "Let's just say I wasn't feeling too good about myself and Ineeded the attention. He treated me well enough at first, and he also took great care of me; he wouldeven take a taxi over to my place just to cook me meals and get me medicine when I was sick." Hergaze flickered over to Cindy as she continued, "You know how we women are. We tend to open up tothose who treat us well, and I was really broken back then. He showed up at the right time and Iwavered."

Back then, she had only just gotten out of a relationship that had ended on a sour note—it eveninvolved a fight out in the streets and getting taken away to the police station.

The man she was previously with had treated her poorly, and she was never one to suffer in silence, sothey spent most of their days fighting like cats and dogs.

To have a man appear in Aurora's life all of a sudden while showing her genuine concern and takingcare of her was all it took for her to feel butterflies in her stomach again.

However, more incidents proved that the man had two sides to him. He had treated Aurora withkindness and generosity when they first started out, but toward the end, he could no longer keep histrue colors under wraps.

He had grown petty and he demanded that Aurora return him the favors he had done for her backwhen he was pursuing her romantically. He would continuously bring up his contributions and expectedher to pay him back for his efforts.

It was then that Aurora realized she had been blinded by his act, but she couldn't bring herself to endthe relationship. After all, she desperately needed his company at that time even though he was notperfect.

She concluded that her past had been filled with wrong decisions, and now, she said with the benefit ofhindsight, "I have to admit that I had no direction or purpose in life back in the day, so I was alwayslooking for someone to stay by my side and keep me company. Now, I have my own goals and I amdriven, so I no longer need someone to complete me. I know I can make it on my own."

Cindy nodded. She couldn't quite empathize with the depth of Aurora's past, but she thought she couldunderstand some of it.

Indeed, living on one's own could be lonely especially when one didn't have a career or a goal in life.Time would corrode the spirit if one was forced to spend day after day alone with neither family norfriends, which was why most people chose companionship even if it came in the form of an imperfect

person. After all, they could overlook all their flaws if it meant they could fill the gap in their hearts andthe emptiness in their lives.
