Chapter 2017

Every one of them had locked drawers under their working desk. This was an important document, soCindy had locked it up for safety purposes. However, when she leaned down to open the drawer, shewas shocked by what she saw. The drawer had obviously been pried open, as it wasn't fully shut. Onepart of the lock had fallen onto the ground, while the other part was probably in the drawer.

Cindy let out a gasp before kneeling down. The lock had indeed been broken. She quickly opened thedrawer to find that the document was gone. The people around her had heard her gasps, so theyhurried over as they didn't want to miss anything. Cindy picked up the damaged lock before lookingthrough her other drawers that hadn't been spoiled.

Once Cindy was certain that she had lost the document, she shut the rest of her drawers and headedover to Serena's office.

Serena was still in the midst of looking through Cindy's drafts, and she frowned a little when sheseemed to have spotted a flaw. Cindy knocked on the door lightly before entering in a calm manner. "I'dlike to report something to you, Miss Warhol."

Serena assumed that Cindy had come over to ask for her opinions on the draft, so she was rathershocked when she heard what Cindy said. "What is it? Did something happen?"

Cindy placed the drawer's lock on Serena's desk. "Mr. Kaufmann ordered someone to send me a set ofdocuments. I kept this locked in the drawer, but I just found out that my drawer was pried open and thatthe documents are gone." novelbin

Serena froze before her expression hardened. "Have you checked your desk?"

Cindy nodded. "I looked through everything. I even checked the drawers that hadn't been forced open, but the document is nowhere to be found."

"I'll go over to take a look," Serena uttered as she stood up. Both of them happened to bump into Mary, who was walking back from another designer's work area, as they walked out of Serena's office. Marygreeted Serena in a respectful tone. "Miss Warhol."

Serena smiled and nodded in response.

"Is anything the matter, Miss Warhol?" Mary asked casually.

"Oh, it's nothing. I haven't been in the company for a few days, so I don't know if my staff are slacking.I'm going over to take a look," Serena explained.

Based on Serena's answer, Cindy could tell that Serena didn't want others to know about the missingdocument. It makes sense, I guess. Serena may not have been involved in it, but she probably doesn'twant others to find out since this is related to one of her apprentices. So, Cindy stood by the sidewithout saying much.

Mary took a look at Cindy, but Cindy simply gave her a perfunctory smile. After that, Serena followedCindy over to check on her drawer. It had indeed been pried open. Serena looked all over Cindy'sdesk, but she couldn't find the documents anywhere. It was evident that the files were gone.

A dark cloud seemed to form above Serena's head immediately. She had never been a good-temperedperson, and it triggered her more to have such thievery happening in her office. Serena straightenedher body and took a good look at all of the apprentices in her office. Some of the people didn't knowwhat was going on, so they stared at Cindy and Serena dazedly. Others seemed more like they were

prepared for a good show.

Meanwhile, Cindy didn't reveal any emotions. A company as large as this may be filled with all sorts ofpeople, but it would also have CCTVs everywhere. Cindy was sure that she would be able to find theculprit.

After taking a deep breath, Serena nodded before addressing Cindy. "I'll handle this. You can work onyour other tasks."

Cindy nodded before returning to her seat. Serena, on the other hand, stood still as she glared at allher apprentices. She didn't bother to explain the whole situation to them as there were too manypeople around. If things were spoken of explicitly, rumors might spread to the rest of the company.

In the end, Cindy simply acted as if nothing had happened. She pulled a piece of paper out and beganto draw. Serena, too, turned and left the office after a few minutes. Once Serena walked out, some ofthe apprentices huddled closer to Cindy. Cindy found herself staring at unfamiliar faces once more.
