Chapter 1992

"Okay." She took her phone out, and there was a text from Gary. She was too focused just now, so shemissed it. Gary said he was busy, so she might have to wait for a minute. He would come pick her uplater. Since Cindy had to change some details of her work, she texted him back, saying she wasn't in ahurry.

The lady was surprised that Cindy wasn't leaving. "Aren't you leaving?"

"No." Cindy went back to work. "In a minute. I'll leave after I'm done with my work."

The lady mumbled, "You already have a backer, so why are you working so hard/"

Cindy didn't answer her. She only waited for a while, then she left.

Cindy was alone in the office, but she felt tranquil. She worked on her draft until she thought it was fine, then she sorted out the drafts she made in the afternoon and placed it on Serena's desk. Once shewas done, she went down and sat on the lobby's couch as she waited for Gary. It didn't take him longto come, and he called her.

This time, he drove straight to the entrance, and Cindy got in the car without thinking too much. Garyhad made a reservation at a restaurant, so he drove over there right away without asking where shewanted to go.

Cindy told him about her meeting with Mr. Kaufmann today, and she thanked Gary for his help oncemore.

Gary said, "Mr. Kaufmann is a nice man. He's not arrogant, though he doesn't go to the company a lot.

But if you run into any trouble, just tell him, and he'll settle it for you."

I can settle my problems myself. I don't need his help just yet.

Gary asked her how the employees were treating her.

Gary never asked that before, but since he asked Mr. Kaufmann to help out, he probably knewsomething. Cindy nodded. "They were scared." Cindy laughed. "And they looked like they're scared ofme. Probably because they thought I'd make life hard for them." She shook her head. "They changetheir attitudes fast."

Gary grunted. "It's normal. You'll come across these situations a lot more, so use all the connectionsavailable to you. Don't feel embarrassed. It'll make life easier for you, and it won't hurt anyone else."

Cindy knew he was saying that for her sake. She pursed her lips, but she didn't reply. She and Garyweren't close, so she thought she shouldn't use his connections easily, but if it was Ian's connections, she would have used it without hesitation. I'll use it, but only if it's someone I'm close to. She didn't tellthat to him.

They came to a lavish restaurant. The decoration looked expensive, but Cindy didn't mind. She owedhim a lot of favors, so she would feel better if she treated him to something expensive. They wentinside, and a waiter led them to a room.

When Cindy looked at the prices on the menu, she felt relieved. The more expensive it was, the better. She felt that she could repay him if she spent more money. She knew Gary didn't need her to treat him,but it was better than nothing. Cindy then ordered a lot of expensive dishes without even looking at theprice.

Gary got a pot of tea and handed the menu to the waiter.

After the waiter was gone, Cindy licked her lips and tried to start a conversation. novelbin
