Chapter 1991

Gary took her up on the offer quickly. "Sure. Now that you've brought this up, how does tonight sound?I'm free tonight." novelbin

Since Gary had said that, Cindy couldn't refuse, so they agreed to it. After she hung up, Cindy went tothe cafeteria to get her lunch. She held her tray and looked around for an empty spot.

Then, someone waved at her. "Here! There's a spot here!" It was none other than the lady who wouldroll her chair over to her seat to get the latest gossip.

Cindy frowned. She was trying to remember what the girl's name was. However, she never did payattention to her, so she couldn't remember her name no matter how hard she tried. She hesitated for awhile, but since there was someone watching her, Cindy couldn't just ignore the girl, and she went over.

She sat right across from the lady, and the lady huddled closer. "So, why did Mr. Kaufmann want to seeyou today?" She might be whispering, but the people beside her heard it.

The newbies might not know who Mr. Kaufmann was, but the old apprentices knew, so a lot of peopleturned around.

Cindy remembered what Mr. Kaufmann told her when she came out of his office. He said, "You don'thave to clarify everything to everyone. Sometimes, it's fine if you make things easier for yourself usingsomeone else's power. Be smart. Don't put your heart on your sleeve. Someone like that can't go far insociety."

"Um, it's nothing, really," she said. "He just wanted to have some tea, and he asked me if I was doingfine. He wanted to know if I ran into any trouble."

She was speaking the truth. That was the only thing she did in the meeting, and Mr. Kaufmann did onlyask her a few questions. However, everyone else interpreted it differently. The lady said, "Oh, I didn'tknow you were friends with Mr. Kaufmann."

Cindy smiled. She didn't answer her, and she went back to her lunch.

Everyone else looked at one another before returning to their meal.

I had no choice. Yep, everyone's scared, but it's not my fault. They struck a nerve, so I have toretaliate.

Lunch went well. Everyone was still talking, but they weren't being sarcastic anymore. Cindy went backto the office after she was done with lunch. Everyone else was still out. Either they were still eating, orthey were gossiping away.

Cindy rested for a while and resumed her work. She still had no news about Serena, and shewondered when Serena would come back. She had put a few drafts on her desk already, and Cindythought that she might actually make a design for every theme in the file if this kept on. However, sinceshe had no one to give her any feedback, she felt lost. She wanted someone's comment, but after theincident with Naomi's mentor, she wouldn't believe anyone that easily anymore. Lunchtime passed, butIan didn't call her, and she didn't call him either.

She only thought he was busy, and since they didn't have anything important to talk about, she'd rathernot disturb him. Cindy was busy with work the whole afternoon, and she refused to rest. She keptcoming up with designs and changing the details on the fly.

When it was time to clock out, the other employees started to leave, and the lady who had lunch withher tapped Cindy's shoulder. "Work's done for the day. We can leave now."

Cindy snapped out of it and looked around. Most of the employees had already left.
