Chapter 1617

Aurora sighed. “Him? Forget about it. He’s zoned out. Got drunk the moment he came back last nightand spewed a lot of nonsense. Woke up sober this morning, but he obviously has a hangover.”

That immediately reminded Cindy of the nonsense Ian told her the night before. She didn’t know whatto say as well, so she tried her best to come up with an excuse. “Maybe he’s not in the mood. He’ll befine in a couple of days.”

Aurora shrugged. “He’s been this way for days now, so he might drag this out. Not even his friendsmanaged to cheer him up.”

Cindy shut up. She wondered if Ian was acting that way because of the news or because of her.

Since Aurora didn’t have anyone to talk to, she spilled a lot to Cindy this time. Aurora told hereverything that happened since she got to the city with Ian the day before, and she even said that allhis friends already had their own families, while he was still alone. The sight of that pained her sinceeveryone was having a great time with their families, while Ian sat there all by himself.

Cindy didn’t see that with her own eyes, but she could imagine how the scene was after hearing it fromAurora, and it was a bit sad. Ian was a man of few words, and if he was left alone, she could imaginehim being quiet for the whole meal. That made Cindy sigh.

Then, Aurora said, “He doesn’t have anyone to go around with, and I feel lonely. If you don’t haveanything to do, why don’t you come over, Cindy? At least I’ll have someone to talk to.”

Cindy was surprised that Aurora would bring that up. She would never go back. Now that she wasnovelbin

home, she would never go back to Ian. Even if she didn’t get into a fight with Ian, now that she hadcome back home, she would never go back, not even if Aurora invited her. She knew that she and Ianwere a fake couple, so she knew what she could and couldn’t do. In the end, she smiled. “I can’t leaveright now. My family’s happy that I’m back, and they want me to stay for a while longer. They’d be upsetif I leave again.”

That was a good reason, so Aurora couldn’t insist on her coming back.

Cindy continued, “It’ll probably be fine after a while. He’s in his comfort zone, so he’ll pick himself upafter a few days. Don’t worry about it, Miss Peyton.”

Aurora had no idea how to continue the conversation, so she looked at her son, who was chatting withLogan. That stupid boy. Here I am, worried about him, but there he is, ignoring my efforts. God, isn’t heanxious? Everyone else has a family, so why isn’t he showing any desire? Aurora stared at Lola’spregnant belly, and she dreamed of having her own grandchild. Doesn’t he want to hurry up and marrysomeone so he can have a child of his own?

While Cindy and Aurora were talking on the phone, Ian looked at Aurora when Logan stopped talking.Aurora had no friends, and Ian had never seen her calling anyone all this time, nor did anyone call her.Now that he saw Aurora talking to someone on the phone, he knew who was on the other side of thecall.

Logan was still talking to him, but Ian couldn’t hear him. A frown creased his forehead, and he wantedto know what Aurora and Cindy were talking about. But more importantly, Aurora’s expression didn’tlook too good. In fact, she seemed frustrated. Does that mean the conversation isn’t going well? Thatworried Ian. If Aurora couldn’t be on good terms with Cindy, he could never get her back.
