Chapter 1602

Aurora agreed with Cindy’s point. “I told Ian about it, but he just told me not to worry. He said thatthings would be more interesting if a twist happened at the end, but I have no idea what he meant bythat. I don’t know if he actually has evidence that will turn the tables or if he was just trying to make mefeel better.”

Ian said the same thing in the past. He said that it was sometimes better to only reveal the evidence atthe very end because it would come as an unexpected smack to the other party’s face. But the tablesdid end up turning the last time he said those words… How confident is he this time? “Let’s hope thathe actually has evidence,” she mumbled.

Aurora didn’t want to talk about the news on the Internet as it only made her feel more frustrated. Shechanged the topic to ask about Cindy and whether anyone at home was causing her any trouble. Atthat moment, Cindy realized how her mother hadn’t mentioned Ian’s name ever since Cindy got home.Perhaps she doesn’t know how to broach the subject, Cindy thought. Their mother-daughterrelationship was more polite than the relationship between two strangers.

Naturally, Cindy responded to Aurora’s question with a firm ‘no’. “Everything’s fine at home,” Cindyadded.

“How long are you planning to stay there? When are you coming back?” Aurora asked.

Cindy struggled to answer Aurora’s question. She hadn’t made any plans ever since she arrived home, and she didn’t know how long she was going to stay there. Ultimately, it would all depend on howquickly Ian’s matters could be settled. If he got it done quickly, then she would head back earlier tohand over her work. If he needed more time, then she would stay at home for a while longer.

Cindy hadn’t told Aurora about her resignation, and she felt that it wasn’t right to tell Aurora through thecall. “I’m not sure how long I’ll be staying here. My mom misses me, so I might stay home a few moredays if there isn’t much to do at the company.” Cindy came up with an excuse instead.

Aurora nodded on the other end of the line. “That’s good. You haven’t been home in a while. Youshould spend more time with them.” They were both speechless for a moment after that, and Aurorafinally spoke up after a few seconds of silence. “Ian told me that he’ll be traveling these two days. I’mnot sure if he told you about it, but I heard that he put all his jobs on hold. I think he wants a break.”

Ian hadn’t told Cindy anything about this. “Oh. I guess it would be good for him to take a break.Everyone’s probably stressed out because of all the things going on. It’s wise,” she commented.

“I’m not sure what you guys talked about that day. He seemed really down when he was back. I don’tthink the media reports and articles affected him that much—it seemed like he was more impacted bythe fight you guys had,” Aurora said.

The corner of Cindy’s lips curled upward upon hearing Aurora. However, Cindy didn’t say anything elseas she felt like no one else would understand the fight between Ian and her. She didn’t know how toexplain it either.

Aurora had no choice but to drop the topic when she realized that Cindy wasn’t willing to speak aboutit. Aurora had provided a lot of input regarding Cindy and Ian’s matters, but she felt like her advicedidn’t work at all. She understood that she might make things worse if she pushed her limits, so shechose to take a step back instead. “Alright. It’s getting late. You should get some rest since you’ve beentraveling for the past two days. You must be exhausted.”

Cindy nodded. “You should get some rest too. Take care!” They got off the call after that. Cindy put herphone into her pocket and slipped both her hands into her pockets. The night breeze was rather strong, and she felt as if her face was turning into ice.

For a brief moment, Cindy considered checking up on Ian to see if he was impacted by the news. However, she figured that Aurora was probably exaggerating Ian’s sadness and moodiness onpurpose. In the end, Cindy decided that she wouldn’t contact him. His well-being shouldn’t matter tome, anyway. The more I ask about it, the more it will make me seem like I’m the indecisive one whocan’t let go of him.

The next morning, Ian didn’t get out of bed after waking up. Instead, he stared at the ceiling and zonedout for a while. He didn’t feel like his life had changed that much even though Cindy had been gone fora few days.novelbin
