Chapter 1270

“Maybe they’re concerned about your marriage,” Lorraine said with a nod.

Lola could only nod in agreement. “Yeah, maybe.” Far from being concerned, they’re just thirsty for abunch of gossip, she thought silently.

Despite that, she recalled her conversation with her mother in the kitchen earlier about the bridal price. If this got out, the whole village would be in a buzz, and she had no idea how these people wouldcriticize her behind her back.

Without a doubt, there would be talks about her being a gold-digger, and she could even imagine thatsome people would suspect her of being a sugar baby to Logan. Or else, there would be no reason fora wealthy family like the Jeffersons to take a fancy on her since there were plenty of beautiful girls inthe world.

Everyone could tell that there was nothing extraordinary about her looks, education level and job. Noteven her family background was exceptional, so what made her so special?

She didn’t even want to think about it; just the thought of all these gave her a headache.

The meal dragged on for quite a while, and it was Lola and Lorraine who finished eating first. In thecountryside, things were more relaxed and people didn’t require the younger generation to wait at thetable for the elders to finish eating. Hence, while the men were still chatting, both of them excusedthemselves from the table and went for a walk in the yard.

Someone at the gates who saw them coming out asked loudly through the door, “Lola, did you bring

your boyfriend home today to meet your parents? Are you going to settle things about your marriage?”

Before she could even say anything, Lorraine spoke up first. “Yes, we came here to discuss theirmarriage today. We’re very happy with Lola, and we can’t wait for her to join our family.”

“Huh?” that neighbor exclaimed. “Really? Lola is really lucky, then,” he said, his tone soundingsomewhat complicated.

With the smile still on her face, Lorraine replied, “No, no. We’re the lucky ones because she’s way outof my brother’s league.”

She spoke loudly and clearly, enough to let Lola hold her head up high in front of all those nosy people, efficiently shutting that neighbor’s trap.

Perhaps there were others who wanted to ask more, but when they saw how protective Lorraine wasover Lola, they all swallowed their questions. Still, there were people hanging around and wouldoccasionally turn to look into the yard, but nobody dared to come over blatantly despite the curiouslooks on their faces.

Standing in the yard, Lorraine asked in a lowered voice, “Are all these people really your neighbors?”

That made Lola feel a little embarrassed because the tone of the man earlier didn’t sound like he washappy for her. Rather, he seemed a little like a bystander watching the show, and he still lookedunconvinced even after Lorraine complimented her.

As a quick-witted person, Lorraine could easily tell the meaning behind the looks of these people, andLola could only open and close her mouth like a goldfish, speechless.

From the expression on her face, Lorraine could already guess the answer, so she grinned whilepatting her shoulders without a word.

Subsequently, Logan came out as well. Since he wasn’t drinking, it didn’t take him long to finish themeal too.

Without shying away, he straightaway hugged Lola from behind after coming out. Already used to hisways, she smiled and snuggled into his arms.

With a serene smile on her face, Lorraine commented, “You’ve tamed the demon king of our family.”

“I’m more than willing to surrender,” Logan said, placing his chin on Lola’s shoulder. novelbin

Taken aback, Lorraine shrugged and said, “You don’t have to be so cocky about it.”

In response, Lola added, “Exactly. He’s getting more and more thick-skinned.”
