Chapter 39

Chapter 39

Madison thought that after divorcing Neville, she could let go of the past, but every time she metNeville, she could still be hurt by his words. She had loved him for ten years. If she wanted tocompletely erase him from her mind, it would be a heart–wrenching and bone–chilling pain.

She knew Neville had been watching her. She stubbornly straightened her back but, when making aphone call, her voice choked. “Margaret, have Timothy come to pick me up.‘

Just crossing this street had exhausted her. She had no strength left to drive, but she didn’t want signsof embarrassment in front of Neville.

As Madison’s secretary for many years, Margaret had come to share a kind of silent agreement withher. Not prying into the situation, she simply said, “All right. Give me the address.”

After she hung up the phone, Madison’s fingers trembled, and it took several attempts to share theaddress.

Closing her eyes, Madison took a deep breath, forcing herself not to recall every word Neville had said.

Neville kept staring at her. Though only separated by a street, he felt Madison was getting farther away.

This realization made him inexplicably restless. He wanted to smoke but found the cigarette box’empty.

Micah handed him a cigarette and grinned. “You didn’t let others provoke her, but you have provokedher what? Suffer a loss?”

Neville lit the cigarette, took a deep drag, and said harshly, “Are you a spy planted by Madison next tome?”

Micah seemed to go against him these days, openly or subtly defending Madison.

Micah shrugged and said, “I’d love to be. But she might not need me.”

Neville squinted coldly, and Micah shrank his neck. “Just kidding. I’m just standing up for her. After all,she almost died on the operating table for you back then. The Preston family even bought her a grave. This way, you repay the favor, gain a good reputation in the circle, and can marry another suitablewoman with prestige.

“Madison isn’t stupid. She knows your tricks, but she still married you when she survived and ever letbygones be bygones. Yet, for the past three years, you’ve been indifferent to her, and your mom treatsher like a maid.

Who could withstand this kind of humiliation?”

Neville took a harsh drag of his cigarette. He didn’t know the details of the situation. But his indifferenceindirectly fueled Regina’s and Daisy’s arrogance.novelbin

Neville puffed smoke in annoyance and said, “I offered her 60 million dollars, and she refused.”

“There are only two possibilities for that.”

Neville coldly said, “Stop beating around the bush.”

“First, she is disheartened by you and feels sick even by seeing you. Second, she is unwilling to giveup and deliberately makes you feel indebted to her. As time goes by, your guilt will increase, and youwill put her in your mind.”

Micah suddenly smirked and asked, “Which possibility do you think it is?”

Neville felt Micah’s analysis was reasonable. After some serious thought, he said firmly, “The secondone.”

“Congratulations. You still have a chance. She was playing a hard–to–get game. High–end huntersoften join the hunting as prey.”

Hearing Micah’s analysis, Neville was less restless. “I won’t let her succeed.”

He looked up at Madison, seemingly waiting for a ride on the side of the road, and contemplatedwhether to. lower himself and give her a lift.

Micah suddenly exclaimed, “Neville, look at the dazzling sports car across the street. It is Koenigsegg!I’ve been eyeing it for a long time, but a damn guy got it for 80 million dollars!”

Following his line of sight, Neville glimpsed Madison getting into the Koenigsegg with the help of an oldman. The man had a bald head and a big belly and was dressed in a suit, looking wealthy.

Madison let him assist her, even lowering her head to say a few words to him. The two seemed to havea close elationship.

leville frowned and looked sullen when he saw this.

Daisy’s excited voice was heard. “Neville, I told you, Madison can’t live without a man.”

Micah kept signaling to her, but she continued, “I thought her taste would have improved after threeyears in the Preston family. Unexpectedly, she hooked up with an old man. That old man must havenewly acquired wealth, He can’t compare to you.”

Micah tried to stop her, but Daisy wasn’t aware of it and added, “She’s such a gold digger, willing toaccompany an old man for money. Doesn’t she find it disgusting?”

Neville said coldly, “Shut up!”

Daisy was startled. Only then did she notice Neville’s frosty face.

No man could endure being cuckolded.

Daisy thought, ‘But Madison didn’t shy away from it. Neville will feel nauseated whenever he thinks ofher from now on. There was no chance for her to marry into the Preston family again.”

Micah said, “It might be a misunderstanding. Shall I help you check who owns that car?”

Neville’s eyes flashed with a coldness, “We are divorced. If she wants to degrade herself, I don’t wantto

intervene.”

He walked to the car and slammed the door loudly.

With a thunderous roar, the car sped away, quickly disappearing from sight.

Daisy bit her lips and said, “Micah, I have to trouble you to give me a ride.”

Micah said, “Don’t, Daisy. I have to go pick up the girls. It’s inconvenient to take with you.”

After saying this, Micah drove away, leaving Daisy standing on the street alone.

She stomped her foot in frustration. Every time she met Madison, she would be unlucky.
