He frowned coldly at me. "Speak properly!"
"If I speak properly, will you listen to me?" I roared, "Why did you refund my ticket without my consent?
Hendrix, what do you think of me? Am I your toy? Am I a robot that you can control as you please or a
puppet that has to listen to everything you say?"
He curled his lips and fell into silence. He stared at me motionlessly for a long time before asking, "Are
you angry?"
I was stunned, but I tried not to let my anger get the best of me and responded, "No, but please don'tnovelbin
touch my stuff without my permission. It doesn't matter if you don't want to divorce. Well just waste our
time, but please respect me. I only have this one request. Thank you!"
I spoke in a polite but distant way, weary of our fights and having to get mad at him.
Without looking at his expression, I went upstairs and booked myself another flight ticket. Afterwards, I
went downstairs with my suitcase.
He stood in the hall, piercing his cold, black eyes on me as if he wanted to see through me.
I moved the suitcase to the car. Fortunately, he didn't follow me out.
I drove out of the villa and heaved a sigh of relief when I noticed that he was not following me.
I picked up my flight ticket at the airport. Seeing that it was still early, I found a book in the waiting room
and sat on a chair to read it.
All of a sudden, a girl gave me a fright when she came over to greet me.
"Miss Reid, are you going back to Ucrebury today?" She was wearing a trendy- looking overcoat with a
knitted knee-length skirt and a pair of short boots. She looked pretty fashionable and an air of elegance
to her.
I examined her delicate cheeks. After pondering for a bit, I still couldn't remember how or when I knew
this girl.
Seeing my confusion, the girl beamed, "Miss Reid, don't you remember me? We've just met. My name
is Eunice Hathaway. You and Mr. Aaron saved my life that night in Emperor Club."
I was dumbfounded for quite a while. Then, I finally remembered who she was, "Are you from Ucrebury
as well?"
She nodded and replied me with a grin, "Yes, my hometown is in Sandville, Ucrebury. I'm currently
studying at a university in Jarold City."
After a pause, she added in embarrassment, "We're not vey financially stable, you see. My parents did
provide me with money when I went to high school but after that, they didn't have enough to let me
continue my studies at the university. That's why I worked night shifts in Emperor Club. I was bullied
because I refused to perform on stage. Thank you for you and Mr. Aaron's help that day. Who knows
what Mr. Lance would do to me!"
I nodded, finally understanding the situation. I was not good at socializing, so I didn't have anything to
say to her after she finished speaking. Thus, I kept silent.
She seemed to enjoy chatting with me. When she saw me reading, she smiled and asked, "Miss Reid,
do you also like reading 'Notre- Dame de Paris'? I read it two days ago too."
I nodded. After a pause, I glanced at her and pointed out, "We're still a few days shy of the New Year.
You're not getting a part-time job in Jarold City before going back home?"
"Mr. Aaron has assigned me a part-time job in Ucrebury. It's close to home so I can continue working
until New Year's Eve. Then, I'll go back home." She was beaming with happiness as she spoke. Her
face would brighten up every time she mentioned Aaron.
I nodded and thought for a moment. Aaron didn't own any businesses in Ucrebury, so what could have
he arranged for her?
Out of curiosity, I asked, "What did he arrange for you?"
"I majored in accounting so he contacted an auditing company for me called 'Credit Auditing'. It's only
started to grow these past few years. Recently, they've received quite a fair bit of business at the end of
the year, so they're offering me a basic salary plus commissions."
With a smile on her face, she laid her eyes on me and asked, "By the way, Miss Reid, since you're
going back to Ucrebury to celebrate the New Year, will Mr. Aaron be returning too?"
Judging from her expression, did she have a crush on Aaron?
