Chapter 399

Helen's emotional instability put a lump in my throat and the feeling of unease in the pit of my stomach

grew stronger. I looked at Irvin and said, "You better send your mother to the hospital. She looks sick."

Irvin shot a glance at Nerissa and helped Helen out of the house.

Only Nerissa and I were left standing in the hall. I looked at her and said, "It's getting late. I'll head back

first."

After taking a few steps forward, she said, "Do you also think that I'm in the wrong? That I shouldn't

have brought up the past?"

I was surprised. After a pause, I looked back at her and said, "Perhaps Uncle Granger didn't say

anything when he was alive because he had his own plans about this."

"Ha!" She sneered. "He was just worried about Helen's feelings and reputation. What plans could he

have?"

I couldn't help but frown at her, sensing the pure hatred in her words. I looked at her and said, "Aunt

Nerissa, Uncle Granger's plan all along was to help clear her conscience. All he wanted to do in his

lifetime was to protect his wife's reputation. After what you said, she will take a long time to recover

from this."

She endured this and lived in hate for half a lifetime. But she finally found out that she was the one in

the wrong, that she was the one who had hated and loved the wrong person.novelbin

She looked at me with narrowed eyes. "Are you speaking up for Irvin? Am I not a living person too? My

entire life has been ruined because of her. I couldn't marry the man I love, and I have no one to spend

my life with. I'm the one who should be pitied."

I didn't want to sympathize with her at all. Looking at her, I said, "Uncle Granger gave you more than

half of the shares of the Granger Group, on top of the monetary gift he gave you years ago. These are

all the things you were willing to exchange for. Over the years you spent with him, he has given you his

love and care, so let's not be too greedy here. You enjoyed his money and love, but now that he's

gone, you're here complaining that he has ruined your life. Do you think this is right?

Everyone had their own choices to make. When she made the decision to be with Yohannes, she had

already long known that this day would come. It was only a matter of time before it did.

She glared at me. "You did good by marrying yourself into the Roberts family, but honestly, you've

gotten way ahead of yourself. Hendrix was blind to have set his eyes on you."

I frowned, not wanting to continue this conversation with her.

When she looked for me because of Andrea's baby before, I already knew that she was someone who

would put her interests before others.

By the time I got out of the manor, it was already dark outside.

I headed straight back to the villa. I assumed that Hendrix had already returned, but I didn't expect that

he wouldn't be home yet.

I went to the study. I was not familiar with some of the terminology in the documents I had read in the

office earlier, so I did my research.

While I was in the middle of my research, Minnie peered into the study and asked me to have dinner.

But I was neck-deep in my work that I told her not to disturb me.

By the time Hendrix returned, it was already late in the night.

Perhaps he came to the study to look for me when he saw that I was not in the bedroom.

Seeing him, I couldn't help but to take my eyes off the computer. I exclaimed, "You're finally home!"

He smiled faintly, walked to me, and leaned over my table. He peeked at what I was doing.

The faint smell of perfume on his body made me frown.

I wasn't a perfume user and neither would he wear cologne, but this was a woman's fragrance.

My smile immediately fell. I stood up to avoid him, and when he tried to grab my hands in his, I pulled

away instantly and went straight to the bedroom.
