Chapter 1773

I bit my lips and blinked innocently at him while trying to portray myself as naive.

Hendrix's face darkened. He was queasy and helpless. The corners of his mouth were drooping, as if he was put into a situation that had no room for negotiation.

I just went ahead with it and cupped Hendrix's face with my hands as I planted a light kiss on his forehead.

"Alright! No more holding grudges!" I huffed.

As I spoke, a grin spread across Hendrix's face. Bit by bit, the corners of his lips pulled upwards. His handsome features were enhanced by his smile, adding to his charming appearance. It made him look especially attractive.

After all the laughter, the matter was resolved. Hendrix had a slight obsession with cleanliness, and the attire he was wearing was one of his favorites, but it was dirtied by Mullen for no reason. Unless he was treated sweetly, it would not have been easy to work out this issue.

Just as the situation was beginning to get under control, Mullen voiced out once more with her incomprehensible, quiet voice. "Since I was made to do this and was forced to see you guys displaying public affection, I would like to consider this as working overtime."Contents belong to NovelDrama.Org

She was not joking at all. It was like a clang amidst the silence in the atmosphere.

With a scowl on my face, I retorted, "Mullen, don't you know how much I pay for your services? You even tried to demand for more. If you continue doing this, I don't think I can afford to keep you around for long."

"Then, you'd best pray for this fellow not to come around so often," Mullen noted and took out her phone. Her fingers danced across the screen while she wore a serious look on her face. A while later, she pointed at her bank account shown through the phone and directed it at my face. "One thousand dollars, and I'll guarantee that no one will disturb you tonight."

"Huh? Are you serious?" I snapped, a little upset. "You kicked my husband, so do you intend to pay for his medical expenses?"

She lowered her head and mulled over it for a moment. Before she managed to say anything, Hendrix had already gotten up from his seat and fished out his phone to scan the QR code. "I'll pay," he said.

The payment was successfully transferred to

Mullen.

He then put away his phone and instructed, "Stand guard outside the room."

Mullen stared warily at him, and then at me. She was not moving at all, as though she was a sculpture.

I facepalmed and said, "Leave. I'll call you if something happens, so don't launch a sudden ambush in the future."

"That won't do. When I accepted the mission, you stated very clearly that anyone who has any ill intentions towards you must be dealt with." Mullen reported with a look of absolute certainty painted over her face, as though she was a just and righteous person.

When in fact, a week ago, she was still a mercenary with a bounty on her head who was being tracked down internationally.

"Well, alright then, but you must remember that you should never attack Hendrix Roberts, no matter what he does to me. Do you understand?" I nagged. I was angry and baffled. I could not wrap my head around why Tobias picked this rigid woman out of all the mercenary candidates. Content belongs to NovelDrama.Org

I made it very clear on the phone that the price wasn't a problem. The most important thing was her ability to protect me and her common sense.

Mullen was great, but Hendrix had to pay her a fee just to drop by and pay me a visit?

"Understood." After replying, Mullen left the balcony and disappeared from our sight.

Hendrix had been silent during our argument. Checking that Mullen had truly left, he walked over after pulling the curtains. "Where did you find such a hoot?" he asked jokingly.

"Getting Tobias to introduce her

basically shows that he's just as

annoying." couldn't help but

unreasonable. Why did you give her the money? If this keeps up, the Reid family won't last even if we have a dozen gold mines." Content belongs to NovelDrama.Org

Hendrix took off his coat and placed it on the back of the sofa. He walked towards me and said, "Without the Reid family, you still have the Roberts. If it really isn't enough get her to ask the Moore family. It's at

least enough to keep you safe for the rest of your life." Content

"That's true, but..." I trailed off.

I realized that something was wrong. Since when did Hendrix get so close to me? What's wrong with his hands? Why was he rubbing my shoulder?

I shrank my neck instinctively and stared at his face in confusion while asking, "What are you

doing, Hendrix?"

He reached out to hold my face, and his fingers brushed the fringes of my hair behind my ear. His voice was warm and ambiguous as he teased, "A thousand dollars in exchange for private time together. Don't you think it's a cost-effective deal?"

I was rendered speechless.
