Chapter 1768

Emma scrunched her face in disgust at my ridiculous smile.

I couldn't control my laughter. Even if Emma didn't describe it, I could imagine how confused Aaron's expression was at that time. He had finally come across a tough opponent. He wanted to use the same tricks he played to drive Yana away, but Emma didn't fall for his schemes.

"Miss Reid."

All of a sudden, I heard a courteous voice, and my smile froze. I did not turn around until I completely wiped it off.

As expected, Serene Forbes finally approached me.

When our eyes met, the both of us maintained a perfect, polite smile. We looked like old friends who had been on good terms since forever. It was impossible to tell that we were love rivals instead.

As she was the host, the attention of the guests shifted toward the both of us as she walked over.

"Congratulations, Miss Forbes." I expressed my commendation as I raised my glass of champagne.

"Thank you," Serene replied, without any hostility hidden beneath her smile. "Miss Reid, I heard you've started a law firm. Our company has encountered something problematic recently. I wonder if you'd like to help us with that?"

Whether it was a blessing or a curse, I couldn't avoid it. Although I managed to escape the siege of the media, I still had to face the gossip among the famous individuals.

If I accepted the Forbes Group's request, it would mean that I couldn't compare to Serene, and that after leaving Hendrix, I now had to rely on the woman beside him for business. If I did not accept it, it would mean that I was petty, which would solidify the ugly rumors. I was trapped either way. As expected, Serene was not just any ordinary person.

Aaron had said that we should attack where it hurt the most. Now that Serene had delivered herself right to my door, she shouldn't complain if I made my move.

After thinking for a moment, I pursed my lips and added while beaming, "Miss Forbes, you are too polite to extend this opportunity to me. I have never been capable since young as I was under my grandmother's care. After marriage, I was shielded by my husband. And now, I can't live without the protection of the Reid family. I really know nothing about business, but since you have offered me this chance, I'll try my best." Content belongs to NovelDrama.Org

I paused, looked up to search for Fabian in the crowd, and hollered, "Mr. Levin."

Fabian heard my call and got through the sea of people. He sauntered over and stood still behind me. "Miss Reid, what can I do for you?"

"Miss Forbes has a little bit of trouble. You can deal with it yourself or assign anyone in the company to do it. Don't disappoint Miss Forbes," I ordered.

I consciously switched to a different, nonchalant tone when I said "anyone", as if I didn't take Serene's case seriously. I also raised my volume so that everyone could hear me clearly.Contents belong to NovelDrama.Org

Once I said those words, Serene's

face darkened, and her pleasant expression retreated. She scanned me from top to bottom in surprise met her gaze boldly, and put up friendly and innocent front.

Currently, most of the ex

However, this foolish act made them jealous.

In this cutthroat city, nobody could proudly say that their family would take care of them forever, and their only job was to relax and have fun in life. Nobody had this luxury.

Born in elite, prestigious families, the children had qutstanding abilities or attractive appearances. These types of people shouldered the obligation to bring in more wealth and power to their families. Only then would these families give them support in return. If they were born in prestige but were average in everything, they had to be careful of their every move for the rest of their lives. These ordinary people must not bring trouble and shame to the family. Content

As for me, I admitted my incompetence in the face of a powerful woman in the industry. However, my words revealed that I had the luxury and adoration that other people did not have. The privilege that Serene did not have. And I had it all. What else could hurt more than this?
