I shrugged and said, "He agreed to go. Besides, he invited Miss Stone to come here today himself.He knows what he is doing. I don't think we have to worry about him."
Just as we were speaking, Aaron and Emma came in from outside. Emma had changed into amodest outfit and had on nicer makeup, which made her appear more approachable.
Seeing them, Yana and I immediately stood up. We smiled faintly and said, "Welcome, Miss Stone!"
I had already witnessed Emma's outspokenness in the restaurant, so I greeted her calmly. Emmaglanced at Yana and asked, "Are you Yana?"
What a bold question!
Yana was startled, but she simply smiled and answered, "Yes, hello. I am Yana."
Aaron would only become quiet when he was faced with Yana. He had an air of indifference abouthim, and there was a pained expression in his eyes.
It seemed that he was determined about going ahead with the marriage.
Since everyone was here, Uncle Charles ordered the staff to serve the dishes and prepare fordinner. Ethan came down to join us with Carney in his arms. When he saw Emma, he greeted herwith a small smile.novelbin
After everyone sat down, Uncle Charles invited us to dig in. Emma kept glancing at Yana andCarney from time to time. As she wasn't seated far from me, I could see her looking at Aaron after awhile and saying, "You lost such a beautiful wife and lovely child, didn't you?"
Aaron paused for a while and said in an indifferent tone, "Well, you can put it that way." He really didnot intend to hide anything from her at all.
I thought she would be bothered by this, but Emma just shrugged. Then, she lowered her head andsaid lightly, "It's not surprising that things ended this way for you. You abandoned your family andhooked up with other girls. I'm not surprised that your wife ran away. You deserved it!"
I was speechless watching this exchange.
Based on Aaron's temper, I thought her words would make him furious, but he merely shruggedwithout any emotion and said with a cold expression, "Well, I guess this counts as a complaint..."
The way these two got along with each other was really... unconventional.
After dinner, we chatted for a while. After singing a birthday song for Carney and letting him havehis wish, all of us sat and talked together.
When we heard the noise outside, Carney had almost fallen asleep. We all decided to head home.Uncle Charles then sent the servant to go out and see what was going on.
The nanny came back and looked at Aaron. After hesitating for a second, she said, "Mr. Reid,there's someone here for you."
Aaron was surprised and asked, "Who is it?"
The nanny was a little embarrassed and answered, "It's Miss Hathaway who visited with you lasttime."
Aaron was startled for a moment and then said in a cold voice, "Isn't there a security guard? Tellthem that I don't know her. Let them get rid of her. Don't let her ruin the festivities."
The nanny froze for a second, but still did as he ordered.
Seeing that it was getting late, Yana and Ethan got up to leave. Hendrix and I were about to leaveas well. Uncle Charles looked at Aaron and wanted him to send Emma back.
At the door of the courtyard, the guards were blocking Eunice when we came out. She was in ahospital gown and looked so thin, it made her look pitiful.
She was screaming about Aaron's cruelty while crying at the same time. From what she was saying,it seemed that Aaron was really a b*stard.
As I had a good idea of Emma's personality now, I didn't care much about what she thought aboutEunice's sudden appearance.
However, if Eunice kept stirring up trouble here, it wouldn't look good for Uncle Charles.
I glanced at Aaron and said, "You can't let her keep making noise here. Uncle Charles won't be ableto have a good rest later. Get rid of her!"
Aaron was annoyed by her appearance as well. Casting a disdainful look at the woman who wasblocked by the security guards, he pursed his lips and then walked towards her in anger.
