Chapter 1427

I frowned when I saw this scene. How could they be so cold-blooded to give their daughter away?

"Wait a minute!" This time, it was Sheridan who spoke. He stared at Rick and said, "What betrothalgift did you give them?"

Rick seemed to be in his forties. He was fat and sturdy. He stared at Sheridan and said, "A hundredthousand dollars. Why? Are you also interested in this child?"

Sheridan frowned, pursed his lips and said with some disgust, "I will compensate you the money.Let her go!"

Rick suddenly burst into laughter. He looked exceptionally ferocious and hateful, "It seems like youare trying to be the hero. My son is dead and I'm trying to bring this little girl back to help mecontinue our bloodline. Are you trying to stop me? If you are actually interested in this girl, I don'tmind letting you have her. However, Gail has so many daughters. Do you think you can save all ofthem?"

Rick was right. In this kind of situation, Sheridan shouldn't have intervened. It would just ricochetinto more trouble. Even if Sheridan were to really save this girl, Gail still had many other daughters. He could just find another one to replace her. After all, Susan had murdered his son. The onlyperson they could take revenge on was Gail.

Sheridan frowned. He was aware of the truth. He knew what the situation was and thus he didn'tsay another word. There was nothing we could do about it.

I was a little annoyed and worried. I stared at Rick and said, "It's fine if you want to take the childaway. I'll just call the police. It's true that Susan had killed your son, so the police will go and arresther. But if you were to kill someone here or even think of bringing one of their daughters back home,

then the same will go for you. I'm not capable of doing much and thus I won't intervene, but I'm stillcapable of calling the cops."

For a moment, the crowd started whispering among themselves. I was well aware that many of theresidents here were not taxpayers. If the police were to come, then most of the people were goingto get fined.

Rick sniggered and stared at me, "Sure, just call the police. I'm the victim here. Why should I beafraid of you calling the cops?"novelbin

The audacity! To them, it was not considered a threat, or perhaps they didn't believe that I wouldactually call the police.

I glanced at Gail on the ground. He was staring at Rick as he said, "You have gone too far. MissReid, please call the cops. I am willing to bear full responsibility."

I was dumbfounded by how reasonable Gail had suddenly become. I took out my phone, lookedRick in the eye and said, "Sure, the police will get to the bottom of this!"

Both of them were well aware that if the police got involved, it would not end well for either of them.It was just a matter of weighing the risks and benefits.

Sure enough, Rick spoke before the phone was connected. He looked at me and frowned, "Tell me,what do you want? This matter has nothing to do with you. Why are you intervening?"

I smirked faintly and nodded, "Don't worry, I'm more than unwilling to intervene. However, you and Iboth hope that this matter can be settled as soon as possible so everyone can go home in peace, right?"

Rick fell silent. He merely pursed his lips and waited for my next move.
