Chapter 1426

Then, Gail and his family were surrounded by a swarm of people. They started cursing andquestioning them. Luckily there were people stopping them from acting impulsively, or else thefamily members of the deceased would've shred Gail apart.

The commotion attracted a huge crowd and everyone gathered around. There were people sayingthat they should be civilized, while some said that they should avenge their deceased son. Theentire scene was chaotic. Laura and the children were crouched on the floor trembling, whereasGail was completely shaken to his very core.

Life had always been harsh on them, but what was worse was the feeling of helplessness. Gail waswell aware that no one was willing to listen to what he had to say. Thus, he just kept his head downand let them continue their cursing and scolding.

My wrist was grabbed by someone and I was taken aback. I lowered my head and saw that Abbywas staring helplessly at me.

I was stupefied. She stared at me and said, "Madam Reid, please save my mom and dad. I'm

begging you."

I frowned and looked at her, "Abby, this is beyond my control."

There was only so much kindness in a person. Everyone was driven by motives and desires. I wasnot an exception. Sheridan was relieved when he saw that I was reluctant to help. He stared at meand said, "You can't be involved in this. You have a child in your belly, so you can't get yourself intotrouble."novelbin

Of course, I was well aware of that, which was why I refused without any hesitation.

The victim's family had vented their anger and calmed down a little. They stopped beating them. They stood in front of Gail and his family and stared down at them, "An eye for an eye. Since Susanis nowhere to be found, then you as her father will use your life to compensate for my son's. We nolonger want the betrothal gift back, hand over your second daughter and I will consider this issuesettled."

Gail stared at him with wide eyes and roared, "Rick, how dare you!"

He didn't care at all and continued, "You don't think I have the guts? Your daughter had killed one ofour family members and you should be grateful that I didn't slaughter your entire family. But nowyou are asking if I have the guts?"

Laura uttered miserably, "Rick, you are a kind man. Just take as many daughters as you want. Myhusband will bring Susan back and compensate for your loss. Please don't hurt my husband."

I frowned. For a moment, I couldn't accept what she had said.

Rick was satisfied with what she said. He said, "Your second daughter is about to turn 14 years old.My son is dead, thus your daughter is going to be responsible for continuing our bloodline. All of youwill have to find Susan, or else I might really consider killing Gail."

As he spoke, Rick stood up and looked at the girl cowering behind her father, trying to shield heryoungest sister. He said, "You're Orchid, right? Your mother has already handed you over to me.Come home with me and bear a son for my family."

The girl was only in her teenage years. When she heard his words, she was so scared that her faceturned pale. She kept shaking her head. Although she didn't understand what was going on, sheknew that her life would be miserable if she followed the man home.

However, Rick didn't bother waiting for her response. He immediately picked her up and draggedher by her hair. She cried bitterly and kept calling out to her parents.
