Chapter 1240

The impact was so strong that I almost flew out of my seat. I shakily tried to regain consciousness. Iturned to look at Hendrix, and I saw blood oozing from the corner of his mouth.

He was covered with debris from the crash and was unconscious.

"Hendrix, Hendrix." I shifted closer and stretched out my hand to help him. I kept calling his nameuntil he regained consciousness. His dazed eyes met mine and he said in a weak voice, "Quick, findTobias. He knows what to do!"

It was at that moment where I realize that there were a few black vehicles approaching. Hendrixurged through his pain, "Hurry up, or none of us can leave."novelbin

The cars were getting closer and closer and I knew that if I didn't go and get help. Both of us willsuffer, with no hope of rescue.

I hurriedly climbed out of the car and stumbled to hide behind a wall not far away.

The black vehicles stopped, and several brawny men dressed in solid black got out of the cars.

They pulled roughly Hendrix out of the car. In order to protect me, Hendrix had tried to shelter mefrom the brunt of the crash. Even from a distance, I could see how badly injured he was. The menpulled him out of the car and pushed him into one of the black cars, not caring about his injury. Then, a man stepped forward, and with a poker face, took out a cigarette from his pocket, lit it, thenthrew the cigarette butt on the ground next to our car. I hadn't noticed that the oil tank of the car wasbusted in the collision. But I did notice that all 4 tires were flat. No wonder the car was out of controlearlier. They had shot out our tires.

The cigarette butt touched the gasoline on the ground and ignited. In a blink of an eye, flamesappeared and were about to consume the whole car.

"It's going to explode," I thought to myself. I sighed at the loss of a million-dollar car. Acting quickly, Imoved further away from the crash site.

However, I didn't dare to go far. I stopped when I felt safe enough to avoid the explosion andimmediately called the police. I wanted to call Tobias, but to my dismay, I didn't have his phonenumber. I called one of the numbers I that Pedro had saved for me instead. Relief swamped mewhen the call connected and I heard someone on the other end of the line say, "Miss!"

It was the man my father had arranged for me in Oakland. I let out a shaky breath of relief and said,

"Hendrix and I were targeted. He was injured in a car crash and taken away. Our car is gone too.Can you find Hendrix as soon as possible?"

After a moment of silence, the person answered, "Okay, but we will need to get to you first andensure your safety!

I nodded and agreed.

Without Tobias' phone number, I could only wait for my father's people to arrive. A middle-aged manarrived swiftly and after confirming that I was safe, said, "The police will be coming over. You mayneed to go to the police station for them to take down your testimony. Don't worry about Mr.Hendrix. I've sent people after Mr. Roberts. It looks like this trap was set long in advance. I'm afraidwe will have to make a long-term plan."

I nodded and said as calmly as possible, "Okay. Hendrix asked me to go to the Hayes Manor to lookfor Tobias. Maybe he knows something that can help us!"

"Okay!"

The guy my father sent to protect me was called Sheridan Lawson. Sheridan was in charge ofmanaging assets in Oakland and has been loyally working as a subordinate for many years.
