Chapter 1237

Amelia let out a sigh. She looked at Monica and gave her a small smile. "My child, why are you soimpatient? It doesn't matter whether he's a member of the Hayes family or not. He's just a twenty-something-year-old boy. How long can he run the family? You don't have to worry. Some people aremore unwilling than you are to let him take charge of the Hayes family. Some people are moreeager to see him in trouble than you are."

Monica was dumbstruck. She then looked at Amelia. After being silent for a moment, she openedher mouth and said, "Mom, do you mean someone will do something?"

Amelia smiled, the very picture of gentleness. "The Hayes family's business is big. It's not only us.Your uncles have been waiting for your father's funeral to take the opportunity to cause sometrouble. Don't worry, just take good care of your company. Your brothers will be back soon. Yourfather did say that they should come back and help Tobias out in managing the company. You're stillyoung and still have a long way to go. Don't wear yourself out unnecessarily. A quarrel only benefitsthe third party. There's no need for brute force!"

Monica nodded as if she understood Amelia's words. She looked at Amelia and said, "Mother, I'mlucky that you remained calm and reminded me. Otherwise, if I actually made a scene, I'll be theone sticking my neck out."novelbin

I looked at the mother and daughter with an uneasy feeling. This was not an uncommon battleamong rich and powerful families. Money was a great motivator.

Realizing that I shouldn't have eavesdropped on their conversation, I turned to leave, when I noticedTobias standing behind me. I broke out in a cold sweat.

Suddenly I heard voices behind me say, "Mom, there's someone there!"

I was stunned. Was I caught?

Tobias quickly led me away. He brought me around the courtyard and into the building. When hesaw that no one was following us, he let go of me. He looked at me expressionlessly and said,"Hendrix is waiting for you in the living room."

I nodded at his terse command and prepared to leave.

However, before I walked away, I heard him saying, "No matter what you heard, you will keep yourmouth shut if you are smart enough!"

It was a reminder, as well as a warning.

I nodded and said, "Don't think too much. I didn't hear anything."

I didn't want to be involved in the feuds and schemes of powerful families, nor was I interested in it.

He looked at me indifferently and sneered. "For your sake, I hope so."

I pursed my lips and left.

The Hayes Manor was very big. It took me quite a while to find the living room. When I saw Hendrixtalking to someone, I walked to him quietly. He looked at me and reached out to hold my hand. Afterthat, he introduced us briefly and didn't prolong the conversation.

He looked at me and asked, "Where have you been?"

"Walking around the back garden!" I said breezily, "Are we going back?"

He answered, "According to etiquette, the guests who came to pay their respects should stay forlunch and then walk Master Hayes out with the Hayes family.

I nodded without objections.

After lunch and various funerary customs, Master Hayes was finally escorted out of the HayesManor. The grand ceremony was led by the priest who provided a special liturgy for Master Hayes.

We followed behind him and stood by as the coffin was lowered into the ground. Everyone stayeduntil the coffin was buried.
