Chapter 1225

I was stunned for a moment. He did not look away from me and said, "Arianna, no matter whathappens, you have to first keep yourself safe. Don't worry about me. Whatever happens, justprotect yourself."

I was still speechless. I didn't understand why he was suddenly saying such things to me. I lookedat him in confusion, "Hendrix, is there something you're not telling me?"

He gave me a small smile, not answering my question. He drove to the hotel.

When we reached the hotel, I was tired. After taking a shower, I had a lot of things in mind to askhim, but because I was too sleepy, I fell asleep on the bed almost instantly.

The next day.

When I woke up, Hendrix was already up and was making a call on the balcony.

He heard me approach and ended the call. He looked at me and said, "We're going to Hayes Manorlater. We'll leave after you wash up."

I nodded. That was our purpose for the trip after all

At Hayes Manor.

When we were in the car, Hendrix told me about the Hayes Family's long history. During the war, they relied on reselling weapons. Later, Master Roberts was brought back to the mainland, and hegrew up there. After a few years of peace in the country, Master Hayes somehow got dragged backinto the war. Later on, he met a group of old comrades, that was when Master Roberts and MasterHayes met. Of course, this included Naomi's grandfather, Ziglar. These old comrades had allexperienced life and death together. Therefore, even though they now lived in different parts of theworld, they still think of each other.

After the war, Master Hayes returned from the mainland to inherit the family business in Oakland. Itwas said that the sons of the Hayes Family either died of illness or experienced an accidentaldeath. Therefore, they had no choice but to ask Master Hayes, who had grown up in the mainland,to inherit the family business.

The quarrels and grudges in rich and powerful families were mostly caused by money.

I walked into the Hayes Manor with Hendrix. Every corner of the huge villa was full of classicalelegance. There were courtyards, ponds, gardens, and a bamboo forest. The Hayes Manor wasmore like a courtly park than a house.

We followed the servants into the hall. Many people were already present. There were men andwomen both young and old. They were probably members of the Hayes Family. Gerald wasnowhere to be seen. However, judging from the expressions of the people in the hall, Gerald didn'tseem to be in a good condition.

"Mr. Roberts, Mrs. Roberts, Master Hayes is upstairs. Please come upstairs to meet him!" TheHayes Family butler bowed slightly as he spoke. He looked like he was in his fifties or sixties. Healso seemed to be a quiet and steady person.

Hendrix and I followed him to the second floor and entered a room that was filled with a strong smellof disinfectant and medicine. A doctor in a white coat was writing something in the living room whiletalking to the servants beside him. It seemed that he was instructing them how to take care of thepatient.

"Please come in!" The butler said and led us into the bedroom.

The smell of medicine was even stronger in the bedroom. An old man was lying on the bed, aninfusion bracket was hanging beside the bed, and an infusion bottle was hanging on the bracket. The butler went in and said, "Master Hayes, Mr. Roberts is here."

The old man on the bed tried to get up upon hearing him. A maid walked over and helped him up.The old man leaned back against the headboard, then looked at Hendrix and I.

The long period of illness made the old man before our eyes look sallow and sickly, like his life couldcome to an end at any time.novelbin
