Chapter 1206

I frowned and couldn't help but ask, "Hendrix asked me to look into Sonia's family and relationshipsyesterday. Have you found out anything? What is the relationship between her and that child?"

He nodded and said, "That child is her daughter. She is four years old. Sonia is a single mother. She got pregnant when she was still in college, we don't know who is the father of the child yet. Herparents are just ordinary workers, and both of them are retired. Her family circumstances are notdire, but she has an older brother who is a gambling addict. Over the years, he gambled away hisparents' pension and house. Now, the four of them live in a small rented house, and their lives aredifficult."

This could explain why Sonia committed suicide and why the elderly couple came immediately toask for a compensation. After all, the whole family lived on Sonia's salary. They had already beenliving a relatively difficult life before her death. Now that she is gone, they were afraid that theycouldn't survive.

After thinking for a while, I looked at Evan and said, "You didn't sleep a wink last night. Why don'tyou go back to your office to catch some sleep first? Leave this to me."

He paused for a moment and said, "I'm okay. I..."

I looked at him and said seriously, "Evan, although I haven't been in the Roberts Group for the pastfew years, it doesn't mean that I don't know anything. Moreover, what's happening in the hall is acivil dispute. There is nothing to do with the business at all. I can handle it. You can go and rest, okay?"

He hesitated for a moment, but still wanted to say something. At this time, his cell phone rang. Heanswered the phone with embarrassment. It seemed to be his wife's voice, coming from the otherend of the line. "Hubby, the baby has a fever. Hurry up and come back."

Upon hearing this, his face changed. He looked at me and said, "Mrs. Roberts, I'll leave this to you.Something urgent came up at home. I need to go home first. I'll be back soon."

I nodded and reminded him to be careful.

After Evan left, I headed to the hall. There were more than a dozen people standing in the hall, bothmen and women, old and young. They were holding a banner, which had written, "A life for a life.Repay your debts."

It seemed truly chaotic. The ladies at the front desk were trembling in fear because of the crowd. They were afraid that they would get beaten up if they said something wrong.novelbin

Looking at this group of people, I couldn't help thinking that fortunately, Sonia's body had alreadybeen taken away by the funeral parlor. If this had happened in the olden days, these people wouldprobably have carried her coffin and placed it here for the show, asking for compensation whilecrying and screaming.

The security guards were standing at the entrance to the elevator, to prevent them from barging intothe office area, which would disrupt the workers.

I got out of the elevator and looked at this group of people who were already starting to getexhausted from making noise. I walked to the front desk, and asked the staff, "Did any reporterscome today?"

Logically speaking, there should be more reporters today than yesterday. Why weren't there anyreporters today?

The receptionist looked at me blankly for a moment before saying, "It's still early. Generally, theycome at noon or night. At that time, it will be peak business hours. Mr. Roberts would only pass bythe hall then."

I was stunned at their craftiness. These reporters wanted to interview Hendrix. As for the families ofthe deceased, it depends on who was the best at coming up with a story after they'd finished takingpictures.

Looking at the group of people in the hall, I took out a few thousand dollars from my bag and said tothe front desk lady, "Get someone to buy some fruits and cakes, and then arrange for people to giveit to them, Also, buy some toys for the kids. It would be better if you can chat with them. If there is achance, try to get information out of them and find out why they came here in such a hurry, andwhether anyone is behind it. Remember to ask some trusted reporters to take photos."
