Chapter 1177

Irvin pursed his lips and did not speak, but his deep eyes were full of thoughts and indescribableemotions. I had said everything I wanted to say, so I turned around and went downstairs directly.novelbin

There was a recreational area next to the hospital. I walked around and saw Shirley with Florence.Florence was helping Shirley take care of the child. Shirley's hair was in a mess and she lookedhaggard. She gobbled down the food I brought for her and judging from it, she was famished. Shebarely tasted the food as she wolfed it down at lightning speed.

Perhaps because she felt someone looking at her, Shirley looked up and stared directly in mydirection. Upon seeing me, she was stunned for a few seconds and then raised her hand to wipeher mouth. Then, she smiled at me awkwardly.

I nodded and responded with a smile. It was a weird feeling. I did not feel good.

Approaching her, I did not say anything and instead waited for her to finish her meal. I looked at thechild in Florence's arms. He wasn't crying anymore. Instead, he was giggling and looked adorable.

Florence was a chatterbox. Seeing that everyone was silent, she began to speak, "Modern girls likeyou both are so skinny. With your figure, you wouldn't have much milk for the baby. When I was atyour age, I had so much breastmilk that it would overflow. I had no choice but to pump it out before Igo to bed. But back in those days, refrigerators did not exist so if the baby did not drink the milk in afew days, it had to be thrown away. Thinking back, I feel that I wasted so much of my milk. What apity!"

After taking her last bite, Shirley smiled bitterly. Then, she looked at Dannie and said, "Yes, what apity!"

After her meal, Shirley went to clean herself up and then took Dannie from Florence's arms to feedhim. Perhaps Dannie was really hungry, so he began to suckle hurriedly.

Since Shirley had just finished her meal, she wasn't lactating much. Dannie bit down hard on hernipple and Shirley's face contorted in pain. However, she forced herself to endure it.

Florence had gone to check on Irvin while I sat next to Shirley. Both of us clearly had something tosay to each other.

But neither wanted to start the conversation...

After a moment, Shirley smiled bitterly and said,

"You must be surprised to see me like this!"

I pursed my lips and didn't know what to say. I avoided her question and said, "The Granger familyis quite well off. You don't have to force yourself to be like this. You could hire a nanny to help withyour baby, and you could live your own life."

That was true...

Irvin was well off. Raising a family shouldn't be an issue for him. Ordinary families might have toendure hardship to care for a child, but Shirley shouldn't have to. Irvin had enough money to hire ananny for Shirley, so that she would have time to care for herself.

Shirley looked at me calmly in the face. "I know what you mean, but if that's the case, he may neverfall in love with me for the rest of his life, and would be at peace with pursuing you forever."

She smiled bitterly, "I didn't use any of the money he gave me over the years. I didn't even ask formy parents' money. I am willing to live as a common woman and take care of our child alone. Thisway, perhaps he'd realize my worth one day and begin to love me."

I understood what she meant. He was a goodlooking man who was successful in his career. He hadwomen fawning over him all the time. Whether these women genuinely fancied him, or were after

his money did not matter. He just had everything.
