Chapter 635

Upon hearing Selene’s words, Esther looked at her, a sudden question forming in her mind. Could it betrue that this elegant and composed woman had never thought about getting a divorce?

“The Pendleton men have always been unpredictable, and my son is no different.” Selene continued.“He might be infatuated with you for a while, showering you with attention. But once the novelty wearsoff, he’ll be attracted to other interests.

“You must now secure your position, stay composed, and understand your role.”

Selene handed a notebook about the Pendletons’ social interactions to Esther, her tone chilly. “Gothrough this notebook thoroughly. The butler handles everything else in the household, but as thefuture lady of the Pendletons, you must memorize every detail, learn to command, and take charge.”

Esther accepted the notebook with both hands, her anxiety evident as she asked, “Can I?”

“What do you think?” Selene rose and summoned a maid. “Shelly, accompany her to the bedroom.”

Shelly asked, “Madam, the young master’s bedroom or…”

Selene replied, “The guest room.”

Esther sat at the desk in the guest room, skimming through Selene’s notebook. She turned the pagesone by one, feeling the cold sweat on her brow. Selene was even more formidable than she hadexpected.

She feared that Selene might test her, so she had no choice but to read the notebook attentively. Shewas so engrossed in her reading she didn’t notice the evening slowly approaching.

The long-lasting Pendletons had trained and nurtured many individuals. Apart from professionalgardeners tending to the home garden, service staff was responsible for mowing and fertilizing.

Despite the butler’s various household tasks, Selene still knew everything by heart.

The sound of a gentle knock on the door roused Esther.

“Please come in.”

Shelly entered quietly and said in a hushed tone, “Dinner will be served in ten minutes.”

“Alright, thank you.”

Esther took a deep breath, tidied herself up in the bathroom, and brought the notebook to the livingroom.

Mandy and Bradley were engaged in conversation with Selene in the living room.

“Mrs. Pendleton.”

Selene casually glanced at Esther and asked, “Have you finished reading it all?”

Esther nodded. “Yes.”

“Please, take a seat.”

Esther looked at the vacant spaces on the sofa, realizing she couldn’t sit beside Bradley and Mandy. After a moment’s hesitation, she settled next to Selene.

Selene warningly looked toward Bradley. “Mr. Warner, regarding you and Esther…”

Mandy proactively clarified, “Mother, they’re already divorced.”

Bradley discreetly glanced at Esther and added, “Yes, we’re divorced.”novelbin

“Even though Mandy isn’t my biological daughter, she has always called me ‘Mother’. Today, I’ll giveyou a motherly warning. I don’t care who you were before, and I don’t care about your past. But fromthe moment you decided to marry Mandy, you became a part of the Pendleton family.

“Pendleton daughters have the right to be a bit spoiled and willful. If Mandy does anything wrong, youcan tell me, her father, or her mother. However, if you ever harm her in any way, the Pendletons willensure you face the consequences.”

For some reason, a twinge of envy grew in Esther’s heart. She wondered if her own mother would havesaid something like that to her son-in-law if she were still alive. She also longed for a mother who couldsupport her in such a manner.

“Mrs. Pendleton, please don’t worry. I will take excellent care of Mandy. After all, she donated her liverto save my life. I will always remember to repay her kindness.”

Bradley’s words were sincere. He understood that Mandy didn’t have much freedom within thePendletons.
