Chapter 407

Jacob responded with a faint “Oh” and continued to ask, “You loved the wrong person, but you hadchildren for him. Do you regret it?”

“You might not believe it, Jacob, but I’ve never regretted it.” Esther’s gaze fell on Jacob’s young, handsome face. “If you’re interested, I can tell you my story.”

“Go ahead.” Jacob leaned back in the leather seat, a hint of excitement flickering in his eyes.

“I was infatuated with him at first sight. At that time, he was a popular guy on campus, excelling in bothacademics and sports. Many girls liked him, including me.

“Young love is like honey, making people eager to taste its sweetness. But he seemed to have anunattainable crush at that time. I’m not sure of the particulars. Anyway, we got married through hisgrandfather’s arrangement. He resisted the marriage while I was immersed in the happiness of havingmy wish fulfilled.

“I naively thought that as long as I loved him, I could overcome everything and win his favor. But realityproved that all of it was my wishful thinking.

“He got drunk, and I got pregnant. It was at that time a video came up and spread like wildfire. I tried toprove my innocence, but it was no use.

“That video then triggered everything after that. You asked how I lost Pixie? It was because I gave birthin prison. When I woke up, the prison doctor told me that my children had died!

“Only after I was released from prison did I find out that another woman had secretly taken away andraised my son as her own in the man’s presence.novelbin

“As for my twin daughters, he sent them to an orphanage, making them abandoned children. When Ifinally got news of my daughters, one was adopted, and the other died.”

Esther’s words were filled with anguish.

Jacob fixed his gaze on the Rubik’s Cube in his hands and asked, “Do you hate him?”

“Hate?” Esther laughed bitterly. “You can only hate someone when you still love them. I don’t love him,so where would the hate come from? He’s not worth me investing any emotions in anymore.”

“If…” Jacob’s voice was hoarse, and he hesitated before asking, “If your son wants you to remarry himone day?”

“That day will never come,” Esther said firmly. “My son will surely understand the pain I’ve beenthrough. He wouldn’t want me to return to that dark swamp just for him.”

Jacob did not say anything else. He lowered his head and earnestly played with the Rubik’s Cube.

Esther noticed out of the corner of her eye that they weren’t heading to the church hospital as planned.Instead, the car was driving toward the bustling city center.

As she wondered, the car came to a stop.

The bodyguards opened the door and escorted Jacob and Esther into a riverside mansion that was likea heritage site.

“Mr. Sanderson, you’re back!”

Jacob led Esther into the picturesque mansion, with its huge ceiling-to-floor windows overlooking a seaof flowers and a winding river. In the distance, they could see an arched iron bridge-one of the city’smost famous landmarks.

“This is your room. Everything inside is new,” Jacob said.

Esther pushed open the room door and was instantly captivated by the luxurious suite.

“The clothes in the closet as well? Can I wear any of them?” she asked.

Jacob raised an eyebrow coldly and replied, “The mall delivered these while we were groceryshopping. Given their professionalism, the size shouldn’t be a problem.”

Esther looked at the luxurious bedroom. She went straight to the closet and changed into anappropriate loungewear set.

Considering her long hair, she wanted to find a hair clip or hair tie to tie it up. After searching for awhile, she could only grab a stick and tie her hair in a bun.
