Chapter 896: Falsehood
Chapter 896: Falsehood
"Drive it back; isn't it safe for now? We'll deal with it after you are back to the Simpson Group."
Once the car returned to the Simpson Group, there were many ways to handle the situation. It was
unlikely that the person behind it could use an accident to stop him from making Sean continue
revealing what he knew. Besides, he was grateful that they discovered the issue in time. At least, he
and Kian were the only ones aware of it, which spared Camille from any worry or entanglement in the
matter.
That was the last thing he wanted to see.
In fact, he had accidentally caught a glimpse of it and then saw someone from the van acting
suspiciously near his car. That's why he asked Kian to bring someone to check it.novelbin
As for the restaurant, as soon as Kian took the car and left, someone went to the front desk to inquire
about it.
According to Ayan's instructions, the front desk responded, "Mr. Simpson had some drinks and couldn't
drive. That's why he left the key with us and asked Kian to come and drive for him."
This answer had no loopholes and sounded plausible, so the other party had no reason to suspect
anything.
Everything was under Ayan's control.
Kian drove back to the Simpson Group, reaching the office in no time. As he handed Ayan the pictures
showing the brake was tampered with, he whispered, "Mr. Simpson, it seems we can't wait any longer."
Ayan glanced at the photos on the phone screen, his expression icy cold. He said, "Get a professional
to conduct an inspection and prepare a report."
Kian nodded and looked at Ayan, asking, "Mr. Simpson, what should we do next?"
Ayan let out a disdainful sound, his face expressionless, his eyes filled with darkness and complexity.
His furrowed brow revealed a hint of malevolence and suppressed chill. "Let Sean's video be released
early. If he can't hold back, then give him this opportunity. After the video circulates, we'll expose
Sean's identity and people who have connections with him via media, and by then, everyone will sort
out the truth. We won't need to worry."
Kian also learned from this, "Preston will have a hard time escaping blame from the media and public
opinion. Regardless of whether he speaks up or not, people will suspect him. After all, this society is
filled with suspicion and distrust."
Ayan's expression remained placid. Without saying a word, he implicitly agreed with Kian.
Since Camille was still in the resting room, and it was almost time for her to start work, Ayan decided to
conclude the topic and asked Kian to leave the office.
Ayan knocked on the door of the resting room, and Camille was watching TV. When she saw him enter,
she instinctively checked the time. "Are we leaving now?"
"Yeah, if you don't want to go, take a day off and stay with me at work, okay?"
"No, I'm too bored. I want to go to work. I can't keep taking days off; people will say things."
"Don't worry about what others think."
"It's not about that. I just don't want to be gossiped about, and I don't want people to think I'm being
privileged because of you. Besides, there's really no reason to take a day off. It's not a good idea. So,
Mr. Simpson, please take me to work now!"
Camille turned off the TV, and Ayan couldn't argue with her, so he had to go along with her wishes.
When Camille arrived at the museum, others had also arrived. In addition to the architects, there were
Jenson and Jenson's secretary, as well as two staff from the museum. Besides them, there was
Preston's secretary, Quintus.
Except for Preston, all the participants of the project were present.
The architects were a bit nervous about such a setup and quietly asked Jenson, "Mr. Evans, why is
everyone here?"
Jenson replied, "I informed everyone to come."
Jenson looked at everyone and said, "Everyone has seen Sean's situation that, and a lot has
happened in our project from the beginning until now. Although Sean is no longer part of our project, he
was still involved at some point. With such a significant incident, I think it's necessary for us to sit down
and talk. According to the police and media, I believe all of us in the project will soon be approached by
the police for questioning."
After Jenson finished speaking, the two museum staff also nodded in agreement.
As for the architects, they naturally followed Jenson's arrangement. After all, they were just employees,
and if there were any issues, they should be handled by the higher-ups.
Quintus spoke up at the right time, "Mr. Evans, your point is correct, but you can't make decisions on
your own, right? After all, Mr. Baxter is not in Hance now. I think it's essential to inform Mr. Baxter
before making any decisions."
Jenson glanced at Quintus and calmly said, "I learned about Mr. Baxter's departure from Hance from
you, Quintus. So, I believe Mr. Baxter wouldn't want work to disrupt him. If yous feel the need to report
to Mr. Baxter, then please help convey the message."
After speaking, Jenson looked away from Quintus, continuing, "Today, I hope everyone can stay in the
museum. I worry that the police may come at any time to ask for our cooperation, so it's best to wait
here and make it easier for them."
Jenson's reasoning was difficult to refuse. After all, it was to facilitate the police investigation, and if
anyone refused to cooperate, they would be obstructing the investigation. That wouldn't be well
received if other people got to know about it.
However, Quintus hesitated for a long time before speaking up again, "Mr. Evans, it's not that I
disagree with your request, but you didn't inform us beforehand. We also have other matters to handle,
and it's a bit difficult for us to accommodate this."
After Quintus's words, the two museum staff also responded, "We don't have any other pressing
matters, and we happen to need to handle some things at the museum. So, staying here isn't a
problem."
As for the architects, they had to work at the museum, so they didn't have any issues either.
Calculating everything, it seemed that Quintus was the only one who didn't agree with Jenson's
arrangement.
Jenson looked at Quintus and asked, "Do you have something urgent, Quintus? If so, go ahead, but if
the police come for questioning, it doesn't seem appropriate for neither you nor Mr. Baxter to be
present. If this gets out, it won't sound good to the public."
After Jenson spoke, Quintus's face stiffened.
If he insisted on leaving, he might be suspected of being involved in this matter.
After a prolonged silence, Quintus finally spoke in a low voice, "I will stay to cooperate with the police
investigation. However, I need to make a call regarding work. Mr. Evans, is that alright?"
"Of course, go ahead, Quintus."
Quintus nodded, got up, and left the conference room to make the call.
He immediately tried calling Preston, but Preston didn't answer after two consecutive calls, which made
Quintus incredibly anxious.
Unable to contact Preston, Quintus could only send him a message informing him of Jenson's
arrangement before putting his phone away and returning to the conference room.
Except for a few architects who needed to work, the others sat on the other side of the room, reading
books or browsing their phones to pass the time.
They waited for two hours, and Preston still hadn't responded.
Everything seemed calm and peaceful, as if nothing had happened.
But that was only within the museum; outside, the world was buzzing.
Sean's video had already appeared online. His confession startled the all-knowing netizens, and
people had varying opinions. Some believed it was a pre-written script, while others thought his
nervousness revealed his inner fear.
Opinions were split on whether it was real or fake.
Amidst the ongoing discussion of the video, an account suddenly posted Sean's identity online,
including the fact that Sean was Elijah's son and Preston's secretary. However, after Sean's incident,
Preston had gone silent.
Was Preston distancing himself from all this or was there another reason?
These questions were magnified in the public eye.
