Chapter 1405

Stella could not help but laugh upon hearing Sophia’s claims. “Oh dear. Do you think I want to beassociated with a family of murderers? You should probably keep your family in order.”

Having said that, Stella paid no further attention to Sophia and headed straight into the police station.Sophia clenched her teeth in anger and followed suit.

When the two groups of visitors arrived, the police asked Albert whom he’d like to see first. Sophia wasconvinced that Albert would want to see her. After all, she was now the sole remaining member of theJewell family. ‘Even if Dad doesn’t want to entrust all his assets to me, he would still require myassistance in clearing his name,’ she thought.

However, that was not the case. The police soon informed them that Albert had explicitly requested tosee Stella.

Stella was not the least bit surprised. A considerable amount of Albert’s wealth was invested inSemiconductor Technology. His company was already running at a loss, and Sophia would receivenothing more than an empty shell. Sophia might even be burdened with Albert’s debts once hischarges were confirmed.

Albert was keenly aware of this, which was why he needed to see Stella first. After all, she stillmaintained an intimate connection with Keegan. As long as Keegan stepped in, there was still aglimmer of hope for him.

Stella was sitting in the visiting room, patiently waiting, when the door creaked open, and the policeescorted in Albert.

Upon seeing Stella, he became visibly agitated and attempted to rush over. The officers firmly held hisshoulders and guided him to the chair per protocol.

Since Albert had not been formally charged yet, the visiting room had no thick glass partition. He stillseemed somewhat decent, but he had lost some weight, and his hair had turned gray.

Albert tried to force a smile when he saw Stella and warmly said, “Stella, you’re here.”novelbin

Stella’s expression was calm. She looked at the middle- aged man before her and noticed he was farfrom what she remembered. He was no longer the impatient man in her memory, nor the proud andambitious scholar depicted in her mother’s photo album.

He appeared to have lost his will to fight and was desperate to be set free.

“The police called and said you wanted to see me. What’s up?” Stella pursed her lips and calmlyinquired.

Albert licked his chapped lips, apparently unsure of how to start. Stella grabbed a bottle of water fromthe table, poured the liquid into a glass, and pushed it toward him.

Albert hesitated for a moment, touched by her gesture. He took the glass with both hands and drankthe water all in

one go. After that, he lowered his voice and said, “Stella, please help me.”

Stella’s face remained unchanged. “Help you with what?” She asked.

“Your mother’s car crash wasn’t an accident. It was Hylda’s doing. She wanted to become the next Mrs.Jewell. So, she arranged for someone to tamper with the vehicle. Now that she has nowhere to run, she’s trying to drag me down with her.
