Chapter 1404

Hylda had misunderstood Rainee’s teachings. Rainee had imparted her with the art of survival, theability to always have an exit strategy no matter the circumstances. Hence, Albert was the only onescared when Rainee wanted a divorce. On the other hand, Hylda relied on Albert like a parasite. Shecould not survive in this world once she was separated from him.

Hylda finally looked up after a fit of laughter. There was a wave of calmness in her expression anddetermination in her gaze. “The accident was indeed no mere coincidence. It was all part of ascheme…”

Hylda began to tell the police everything. She started to talk about when Albert seduced her to becomehis mistress and all that happened in the 20 years they were together. The details she disclosedmatched up with the evidence Stella had provided. She even recounted the moment when Albert hadplanted the antidepressants at the crime scene to throw off the police.

Hylda let the authorities know that Albert was not innocent; he had always been an accomplice. Raineecould have been saved, but Albert intentionally caused a traffic jam to delay her treatment. He neverwanted her to wake up from her coma, either. Rainee’s doctors have prescribed her the best medicinein the country. Yet, Albert asked the nurses to only give them to his wife during Stella’s visits. At othertimes, Rainee did not receive any medication at all.

If Stella had not married Keegan and personally moved Rainee to Rotona Pinnacle Hospital, sheprobably would not have survived that year. Hylda had the evidence to back up everything she wassaying. She even possessed all of Rainee’s medication records.

Perhaps subconsciously, she never truly trusted Albert. She knew a man who could abandon his ailingwife without a second thought would turn against her when she was no longer useful to him.

With the testimony and proof provided by Hylda, the police quickly re-interrogated Albert. Albert refusedto confess, even in the face of overwhelming evidence. He stated he was being framed and demanded

to see Stella and Sophia.

The police were rather considerate and passed his request to his two daughters. Stella took greatpleasure in taking advantage of someone’s misfortune and immediately went to the station. At thesame time, Sophia was eager to take control of the Jewell family fortune and to repay Ethan. To dothat, she needed Albert to grant her his assets through an attorney. So, she showed up with legalrepresentation.

Stella and Sophia bumped into each other outside the police station. Keegan had an important meetingtoday with a client, but he did not want Stella to go alone. So, he arranged for Aldor to accompany her.Just as they stepped out of the car, they ran into Sophia and her lawyer. Sophia was seething withanger when she saw Stella. On the other hand, Stella remained remarkably composed and paid her nomind.novelbin

“Have some decency, Stella. This is a family matter. It has nothing to do with you. Why the hell are youhere? Are you trying to get a piece of the Jewell family fortune?” Sophia said while approaching herwith a cold face.

Stella stared at her like she was looking at a lunatic and said, “You sure did inherit Albert’s trueessence. Your parents are in trouble, and all you can think about is the Jewell family fortune.”

She paused for a moment and added, “I almost forgot that Albert was arrested because of you. I guessmy mother’s efforts in raising you didn’t go in vain. You’ve finally repaid your debt. I should’ve broughtyou flowers to thank you.”

Sophia’s mouth twitched, and her face darkened. “How dare a fatherless bastard like you talk to methat way? Before my dad was caught, he wanted to adopt you as his daughter and give you a name tomake it easier for you to remarry Keegan. Do you think the Kane family would accept you now that mydad is in custody and you’re not his adopted daughter?”
