Love In Twilight By Tiny Mountains Chapter 154

Chapter 154 Do You Have A Boyfriend?

Even though it was the holidays, Uncle Pete still had to work. So, Aunt Cindy and Connie were the only

ones at home

When Cindy saw Clarissa and her mother, her reaction was the same as Connie’s. They were both

emotionless

Deep down, Clarissa felt bad for her mother. She had been bedridden for almost six years. All this

while, Theresa couldn’t visit her mother at all.

When Grandma saw Theresa, they hugged each other and cried out loud. It was apparent that the

affection they shared for each other was mutual.

Cindy glared at Grandma. Clarissa knew exactly what she meant by that look. She was warning

Grandma to choose her words wisely.

Since Grandma depended on Peter and Cindy for a living, she was terrified of Cindy. Refusing to say

anything, Grandma only sobbed in silence.

Looking closely, Theresa realized that there were bedsores on her mother’s back. On top of that, the

bedsheet was extremely filthy.

“Mom, I’ll clean the bed sheets for you,” Theresa said.

Knowing that Theresa had difficulty moving around, Clarissa took the bed sheets to the bathroom. The

moment she was about to dump them into the washing machine, Cindy looked at her with disgust. “You

can’t use that!”

“Why?”

“There’s a lot of filth on it. She usually urinates and defecates on the bed.” Then, Cindy reached for a

bucket from beside and continued, “Here, use this bucket.”

For the sake of her grandmother, Clarissa held back her anger and spent the entire morning washing

the bed sheets with her bare hands. Since Uncle Peter didn’t want to waste money on electricity, they

refused to switch on the heater. When Clarissa was finally done, her hands were so red they were

almost frozen.

In the afternoon, Cindy cooked lunch for the guests.novelbin

“Clarissa, have you started working?” Cindy looked at Clarissa and asked sarcastically.

“Yes, I have.”

“What are you working as?” Connie prodded.

“I’m working at a small company as their accountant,” Clarissa lied as she recalled her mother’s words.

Cindy smiled proudly.

“Connie’s currently working at the largest paper mill in Pentatone County.”

“Oh. Good for her,” Clarissa said.

Clarissa didn’t sound genuine at all. So, Connie bragged even further, “I’m going to start working at

New East Corporation after the holidays. New East Corporation is the biggest company in Genovia. I’m

sure you’re aware of that.”

Clarissa paused and thought, ‘What?’

She was never really familiar with the job vacancies offered by the company.

Noticing Clarissa’s stunned expression, Connie swelled with price.

“I heard that an accountant’s salary is fixed at around 4-5k a month. Since I’m working in the Sales

Marketing Department, I can earn more than that in a month as long as I put in the effort,” Connie said

“Yeah, you’re right,” Clarissa said.

“Oh, right! Do you have a boyfriend?” Connie pressed on

Since Clarissa had a rough start in her life, her only hope now was to marry a rich husband. If Clarissa

managed to do that, Connie would’ve lost the battle to her. Connie thought, ‘She better marry a useless

man who depends on her for a living!

“I’m married.” Clarissa put down her cutlery. Aunt Cindy’s cooking was so horrible that she couldn’t

even finish her portion

Connie was stunned. ‘What?! She’s married?

“What does your husband do?” Connie asked anxiously.

“He’s just an ordinary person who owns a small company. He doesn’t have a rich family background,”

Theresa lied, for fear of incurring Cindy’s wrath.

Once again, Connie sized Clarissa up again. This time, her gaze landed squarely on her clothes.

Connie, being a country bumpkin, glanced at the simple design of her clothes and thought they looked

pretty cheap.

Noticing that Clarissa wasn’t well off, Connie felt relieved.

If Clarissa’s husband was truly a big shot, she would’ve brought him here to show off.

He must’ve been too embarrassed to even show up at their house.

“Cindy, is it okay if I stay over tonight?” Theresa asked.

“Sure, why not? But you two will have to squeeze in with Grandma. We have limited space, you see?”

Cindy glanced at Clarissa as she spoke.

If Theresa was well-off, Cindy would’ve definitely changed her attitude.

Unfortunately, Theresa had been sick for six years. Cindy was convinced that Theresa must’ve spent

all her fortune on her own medical expenses. How tragic! Clarissa’s husband wouldn’t even show

himself today. They must’ve been so poor that they couldn’t even afford the basic necessities.

As Clarissa listened to Cindy’s words, she resisted the urge to lash out at her aunt.

Grandma was sleeping on a single bed. It couldn’t even fit two people, let alone three of them.

Cindy and Connie didn’t even have the courtesy to offer Connie’s room to Clarissa.

“That’s fine. Clarissa will be staying outside with her friends tonight,” Theresa said.

“Friends? What friends?” Connie asked curiously. She thought, ‘Could her so-called ‘friends’ turn out to

be her husband?

“They’re my colleagues from work,“ Clarissa made an excuse.

Hearing that, Connie was adamant to follow Clarissa tonight.

‘She must be meeting her husband! I have no doubt about it! Connie thought.

In the evening, Uncle Peter was happy to see Theresa. However, he didn’t seem interested in striking

up a conversation with Clarissa.
