Love In Twilight By Tiny Mountains Chapter 139

Chapter 139 Clarissa Went Silent

“A–Are you for real?!” Luke jumped out of his chair and quickly approached Damien.

“Yes.”

“Do you have the guts to draw up a contract and let me sign it?” Luke was afraid that the house would

be nothing but an empty promise.

“There’s no need for that. I’ll have my assistant pass you the keys.” After that, Damien turned around

and left the ward to make a phone call.

Luke was stunned to hear those words. ‘I wasn’t able to extort money from him before, so why did he

change his mind this time?‘

Soon, Damien re-entered the ward and said, “My assistant will be here shortly with the keys.”

Luke was surprised once again. He had a feeling that this was a dream come true.

On the other hand, Theresa felt deeply anxious. She told Damien, “You don’t have to do this!”

“It’s nothing,” he replied.

Clarissa thought, ‘What on earth is Damien thinking? Is he trying to show Mom he’s a great son-in law?

The cost for a performance like that was too big, wasn’t it? To think that he had bought two

properties in one go…

Based on the real estate prices in Genovia, one property was at least in the millions…

“Please… Please think it through.” Clarissa quickly tugged at Damien’s sleeve.

Luke quickly moved the chair to the spot behind Damien in order to please him. Since he no longer had

a chair to sit on, he decided to stand behind Damien instead.

“Let Mom rest.” Damien sat on the chair.

Clarissa knew Luke was waiting for Damien’s assistant. He would only leave once he obtained the keys

to the new house.

Then, Theresa started chatting with Clarissa again.

Clarissa felt that her mother was troubled by something. Maybe her mother felt anxious because of

Damien’s expensive gift.

A while later, Damien’s assistant dropped by the ward with the keys.novelbin

“Mr. Lawrence, here are the keys to the properties in Etheria.”

“Etheria?” That name shocked Luke. “That’s…!”

That was the name of the richest and most famous neighborhood in Genovia.

“Just claim whatever you need from Clarissa. I have nothing under my name, alright?” Luke quickly

clarified.

“Just leave!” Damien didn’t want to continue speaking to Luke.

Luke felt the weight of the keys in his hand. “Actually, Mr. Lawrence, I’m a very reasonable person.

From now on, I’ll help you instead of Joseph.”

Luke was always one who changed sides quickly.

Clarissa could feel the second-hand embarrassment all the way from here.

Once they were done visiting Theresa, Clarissa and Damien left the hospital.

“D-Do you need me for something?” Clarissa sounded slightly meek. It was clear she was anxious.

She knew there was no such thing as a free lunch.

“I don’t have any ideas for now. I’ll let you know once I’ve thought of something.” Damien sounded cold

as usual.

Clarissa had a feeling that the day Damien thought of a favor for her was the day her suffering would

officially begin.

“To be honest, you don’t have to do all that.”

Damien didn’t respond to her. His phone chose to ring at that moment. The caller was Judy, the HR

director.

Judy told him she wanted to enlist for new recruits in pursuit of the vacant position of the finance

director. Then, she started telling him all about the list of requirements the candidates needed to fulfill.

Damien grunted a few times in agreement throughout the conversation. In the end, he replied,” You’ll

be in charge of that. I’ll personally interview the candidates who make it into the final round.”

“Wait, you’re the one in charge of interviewing the candidates who are applying to become the finance

director during the final round?” Clarissa inquired right after Damien disconnected the call.

“Yes. Since the finance director is a part of the senior management, naturally, I have to be the one

judging the candidates for myself.”

Clarissa thought, ‘Rebecca’s going to need a lot of luck to be able to pass the final round. After all, she

used to be a part of Great West. Since Damien hates Joseph’s guts, he definitely won’t give her a

chance. Then again, Rebecca’s considered as the cream of the crop. What if..?’

On Monday evening, Damien returned home with three resumes.

Those three candidates were chosen from thousands of resumes that were sent to the HR department.

The day was spent conducting interviews with all of those candidates. After the first elimination round,

those resumes were finally chosen and submitted to Damien for the final judgement.

Judy happened to be on the phone with Damien at the moment.

“Mr. Lawrence, one of the candidates is named Rebecca Steward. She used to be affiliated with Great

West Accounting Firm. It’s true she’s highly skilled as she’s one of the ten best accountants in Genovia.

However, she had sent her resume to the HR department’s email address on Friday,

whereas we only released the recruiting announcement to the public on Saturday. Please take a look at

this…”

Damien frowned slightly as well. “Let me take a look.”

If that was the case, that meant Rebecca already knew that Howard had got taken away in advance.

Even though it wasn’t a private matter, it was still odd for Rebecca to know about this incident right on

time.

Clarissa approached Damien and spotted Rebecca’s resume straight away.

“Did she pass?” she asked with bright eyes.

Damien’s expression darkened as he shot her a look. “Yes.”

“Will she be selected as the new finance director?”

“It all depends. Did you tell her about Howard getting detained?” Damien lifted his head slowly and

studied Clarissa’s expression.

Clarissa thought for a moment. “Nope. The last time I met her was when we were having a meal

together. You were there as well, weren’t you? Director Brooks didn’t get into trouble at that time. Is

there a problem? Could it be…”

Clarissa suddenly remembered that she had told her mother about Howard getting taken away during

her visit on Friday evening. She said that in order to show her mother just how busy Damien was.

Joseph was there as well, so there was a chance he had overheard their conversation and told

Rebecca to submit her resume.

“Could it be, what?” Damien glared daggers at Clarissa.

Joseph was stirring the pot again!

Clarissa was afraid that Damien might blow his lid when he heard her mention Joseph, so she decided

to conceal that fact.

“Um… It was nothing. Maybe I thought wrong,” she lied.

However, Damien was able to see from her expression that she had told Joseph that incident.

He took out Rebecca’s resume and immediately ripped it into shreds.

Clarissa watched him venting his anger on the resume silently, not daring to say a word. She was

afraid she would anger him even more if she tried to say anything.
