Chapter 507

Chapter 507 Marriage Is Absolutely Worthless

Nieve stared at Josiah thoughtfully. “Ms. Thorne’s friend?”

“Correct

“What’s your relationship with her friend that brought you here to find me personally?”

In his arms, Aurora was still wide–eyed, filled with curiosity about the world around her. Josiah shiftedhis. position to hold her more comfortably. He also pulled her tiny dress downward to straighten it out.

“She has nothing to do with me.” Josiah gestured toward Lysander with his chin. “However, she hashelped Lysander a lot.”

Nieva shook her head, chuckling lightly. “Oh, returning a favor.”

“Yes, you could say that.”

Nieva became serious. “How much is needed?”

In a few brief words, Josiah explained the situation about Daphne’s family. “The company’s bank loanhas been fully repaid, but as you are well aware, it takes some capital to make a comeback.”

Nieva scanned Josiah from head to toe with a peculiar gaze and said, “That’s odd. You could haveeasily handled this situation yourself. It would have been much more convenient than seeking my help.Is there something else going on here that I should know about?”

Josiah cradled Aurora in his arms, leaning gently against the backrest as he spoke. “I’ve transferredsome money, but I suspect she has her reservations. She probably won’t use it.”

After hearing everything, Nieva did not immediately express her stance. Instead, she fell into silence fora

moment.

As Josiah was helping Daphne, Lysander chimed in, “My friend’s family business has always beenstable. However, an elder in the family got ill and had to stay abroad temporarily, leading to this urgentsituation. I understand that investing certainly carries risks, and I can’t guarantee that it will definitely beprofitable and won’t incur losses. But what I can promise is that my friend will certainly do their best.”

“Ms. Thorne, you’re quite interesting” Nieva chuckled lightly. “This is the first time I’ve heard such anhonest explanation.”

Josiah smiled helplessly. “She used to study medicine. She’s used to speaking plainly and doesn’tunderstand the intricacies of the business world. Everything she says is sincere.”

“I like honest people,” Nieva said, smacking her lips. “I am tired of all the smooth–talking and slickwords. it is refreshing to hear something straightforward. But Ms. Thorne, I must remind you, the morethe money, the more of a battlefield it becomes. To stand firm in such a place, you can’t have too high amoral standard, or it will drive you crazy just watching.”

Josiah frowned. “Don’t scare her. She’s just starting out Let her adapt gradually.”

“Mr. Guerra, I was having a conversation with Ms. Thome. Why are you interrupting?”

Nieva was joking. Naturally, Josiah didn’t take offense. He made a gesture and said, “Apologies, ladies.

Judging from Nieva’s demeanor, she didn’t seem to be particularly averse.

Lysander quickly added, “I am just getting started in this field and don’t understand many things. I amsorry if I made a fool of myself.”

“Not at all. I actually appreciate direct communication. Honestly, with Mr. Guerra’s backing. I have noconcerns. Given the relationship between our families, even if your friend loses money, Mr. Guerrawould cover it. I am just curious–since your friend is important to you and Mr. Guerra values you, whywouldn’t she use his money?”

Josiah sighed, looking a bit resigned. “it is a long story.”

Nieva seemed even more curions. “Is she at odds with you?”

Josiah recalled Daphne’s hostile attitude when he called her and answered honestly, “If she knew theinvestment was from me, she would probably be happier losing it all”

Nieva immediately burst out laughing without any regard. “No way, how on earth did you manage tooffend her? She would rather refuse the money than let go of her grudge.”

If Josiah weren’t holding the baby, he would probably be rubbing my forehead by now. Josiah saidhelplessly. “I made some mistakes in the past that I haven’t been forgiven for. I am trying to improve mystanding with her now.”

Nieva laughed again, enjoying his discomfort, but then grew serious. “I should give you this favor, butsince most of the Lionhart family’s finances are under my husband’s control now, and given my currentsituation… You understand.”

Her expression turned somber, a fleeting sadness that was real but quickly masked.

Josiah turned serious, understanding her concerns. “I understand. You might not have full authorityover investments right now. I won’t ask for much. Just do your best.”

“The amount is not an issue,” Nieva agreed quickly, though with some irritation. “It is having to deal withhim that’s annoying.”

It seemed Nieva’s marriage was complicated, something Josiah was aware of. He remained silent, andLysander didn’t feel it was appropriate to comment.

Josiah asked, “Will you and Elio Cortez continue like this?”

Nieva rolled her eyes. “He got what he wanted, and I got what I wanted. We’ve both achieved ourgoals. Marriage is absolutely worthless.”

Josiah frowned slightly. “It depends on the person.”

“Are you saying I can’t judge people well?”

“No, you have good judgment. Elio is capable and ambitious. He will elevate the Lionhart familyfurther.”

“Yes, but such a man is not suited to be a husband.” Sadness flashed across Nieva’s eyes. “At least, not my husband. To other women, he’s a perfect man.”

Josiah said, “But you are still a Lionhart. No matter how capable Elio is, he can’t replace the familyname The company remains under your family.”

“Yes,” Nieva smiled faintly. “I was lucky to be born into the right family.”

Josiah signaled to Lysander with his eyes. “With Ms. Lionhart’s support, Dapline’s investment issecured.”

der understood and immediately stood up, raising her glass of milk. “Ms. Lionhart, it is a great help intimes of need. I thank you on behalf of my friend. If this goes through, she will come to thank youpersonally.”

Nieva waved her hand, a sly smile on her face. “Hold on, I am willing to help, but I haven’t mentionedmy condition yet.”

Lysander tensed up, but Josiah remained calm. “Go ahead.”

Nieva reached over to take Aurora, who was getting restless in Josiah’s arms. She asked, “Do you findtaking care of children tiring?”

Josiah admitted, “I haven’t taken care of a baby before.”

Lysander clarified. “Tve looked after mothers and newborns but not for long. Mostly, nurses handle it.”

“Ms. Thorne you’re a gynecologist?” Nieva sounded more confident than they did. “That’s even better.Do you have any plans recently? Could you take care of Aurora for a few days?”novelbin
