Chapter 418 In What Position

“Why? Did they have a disagreement?” someone asked.

Aiden shot him a glance. “Do you even use the internet?”

“I do.”

“Didn’t

u see the news while back?

“What news?

Aiden pursed his lips, waving his hand in annoyance. “Forget it. If you haven’t seen it, then don’tbother. It’s irritating news.”

The guy’s curiosity was piqued, and he turned to ask his buddies what it was about.

However, everyone seemed reluctant to elaborate further, looking away as if it were some taboosubject.

Only one of them covered his mouth with his hand and whispered something into the guy’s ear.

The guy was immediately taken aback. “A dark–skinned kid? Doesn’t that mean Josiah… holy sh*t!”

“Would you keep it down?”

Aiden raised his voice to stop them. “Enough, let’s drop this topic. From now on, keep your mouthsshut, got it?”

“Don’t worry, we get it. I see. That’s why Josiah has been out partying these few days. I was wonderingwhy he suddenly changed his lifestyle after being virtuous and abstinent for over twenty years.”

Aiden scoffed, “You don’t know a thing, so just shut up! Josiah’s affair is none of your business-

He was cut off mid–sentence upon catching sight of Lysander standing behind him out of the corner ofhis eye while shaking his head. His complexion changed dramatically, and he stiffened before turningaround. “You… Why are you here?”

Aiden’s voice was loud, and everyone present heard him–including Josiah and the girl who waslearning how to play pool.

Josiah’s gaze barely lingered on Lysander before swiftly moving away, as if he didn’t know her at all.He continued tutoring the girl. “Your strike was a bit off earlier. You need to hit the center of the cue ball, like

this-”

The cue ball was struck, colliding with the black eight–ball, which then sank precisely into the corner.pocket.

The girl looked at him with eyes full of admiration. “You’re amazing!”

Josiah chuckled, handing her the pool cue. “Your turn to give it a shot.

“All right, I’ll try again.”

However, her second attempt was

still off the mark, failing to even

hit the cue ball.

Aiden sobered up considerably and stood up straight, clearing his throat to mask his embarrassment. He then asked Lysander. “Did you come here to play pool or to find someone?”

Lysander seemed indifferent. “I’m here to see Josiah. There’s something I need to discuss with him.”

“Oh, you’re here for Josiah… Um…” Aiden drew out his words, looking at Josiah, unsure what to do.

He was fully aware of everything that transpired between these two, hoping he wouldn’t get caught inthe

crossfire.

However, Josiah seemed oblivious to the exchange between Aiden and Lysander. He didn’t even lift hishead as he spoke to the girl. “Try again.”

The girl felt a bit embarrassed. “How about you go about your business? I’ll go practice on another pool

table.

“What’s the matter? Don’t you want to learn from me?”

The girl’s attention was instantly drawn back by his gentle tone. “I do.”

His voice grew increasingly gentle as he said, “Let’s carry on then. I’ll be right here for you. You need tobe confident in yourself.”

“But I think that lady wants to talk to you…” the girl said, hesitating.

Josiah pointed at the center of the white ball. “Look, aim here.”

The girl glanced at Lysander, a bit flustered. “O–Okay.”

The atmosphere fell eerily silent, with only the crisp sound of the cue striking the balls filling the air.

Zane was right. Josiah didn’t want to see her.

However, since she was here asking for a favor/she took the initiative to break the silence.

Raising her voice, she said, “Josiah, let’s have a talk.”

“That lady… The girl spoke up, but was once again interrupted by Josiah.

“Once you’ve got your aim right, strike with confidence,” he said.

“Don’t hesitate, hurry.”

Josiah clearly didn’t want to have anything to do with Lysander, so the others dared not say a wordeither. They could only exchange glances, hoping for someone to break the awkward silence.

Zane came over to mediate. “Josiah is busy at the moment. Why don’t you go and take a break in thebooth?”

Without waiting for Lysander’s response, he hastily told the service staff, “Bring this lady a glass oforange juice.”

“That won’t be necessary” I sander renlied with a fondly ver firm demeanor declining his kind offer “Til

just have a quick chat with Josiah, and then I’ll be on my way. I won’t take up too much of his time.”

Finding himself in a tight spot, Zane edged closer to Josiah and said carefully, “Josiah… you know yourwife… I mean, Lysander well. She wouldn’t show up without a good reason. Something importantmust’ve brought her here. Maybe we should hear her out first.”

Josiah, boiding the cue, finally paused in his tracks. He glanced at Zane, seemingly understanding whyLysander knew he was here. Then, he let out a cold chuckle. “Looks like you have nothing better todo.”

Zane knew he had been caught red–handed. With a troubled look on his face, he turned towardLysander, seeming to say there was nothing else he could do.

Lysander said, “It’s okay. Since Mr. Guerra’s busy, I’ll wait nearby. We can talk once he’s done.”

Having said that, she made her way to the booth that Zane had mentioned and sat down.

However, she hadn’t expected that she would end up waiting for more than five hours.

Zane made his way over to her, pretending to bring her a drink as he quietly asked, “Are you stillwaiting?

Lysander nodded in determination.

Zane let out a sigh. “All right then.”

She waited from evening to midnight, and then from midnight to the early hours of the morning. Thepatrons of the club came and went, yet Josiah still disregarded her, focused on teaching the girl how toplay pool.

Lysander glanced at the time, which was already past two in the morning

Today, Josiah was dressed in a white shirt, its sleeves rolled up to his elbows. When he bent over tostrike the ball, the shirt clung tightly to his back, and she could see another layer of fabric underneath.

It must have been the gauze used to cover the wound to prevent friction.

She stood up and walked over again.

This time, it was the girl who spotted her first. She paused, signaling to Josiah that Lysander wasbehind

Josiah turned and looked back. “Why are you still here? I thought you had left a long time ago.”

Lysander spoke softly. “I must advise you that since your back injury hasn’t fully healed, it’s best toavoid. any vigorous movements during this period. Try not to bend over too much when playing pool. Ifyour wound reopens, the subsequent treatment will be a hassle.”

Josiah straightened his back, finally giving her his full attention. His expression was intimidatingly hisvoice even frostier. “In what position are you speaking to me now?” he asked.
