Chapter 953 Congratulations! (Part Two)
When Matthew sneaked into the lord's mansion, Rolando took his leave initially. But when he wasabout to leave, he gave a meaningful look at Matthew. In Matthew's eyes, that look was full ofprovocation, but Matthew didn't care it anymore. What he wanted to know was whether his wife wasreally pregnant.
Under the candlelight, Harper was reading a medical book, looking for a way to detoxify her brother. Itwas completely an accident for her to make the Spiritual Poison. It was not easy to get rid of poisonnow. With her current physical condition, she couldn't get the blood of her heart; if she was not carefulenough, it might cost her life.
"Are you still looking for a way to make the antidote?" Matthew said and hid himself in the shadow, sono one could see his expression. Harper didn't look up. She was just scanning the medical bookquickly in her hand.
"Well, the Spiritual Poison can't be suppressed for a long time. The sooner I find the way to make theantidote, the better," Harper responded quickly. "Have you finished your business?"
"Almost done," Matthew said as he sat down next to Harper and held her wrist. Although he was not aphysician, he could feel her pulse to check if she was pregnant.
When Harper finally looked at Matthew's hand that was holding her wrist, she then steered herattention to his face, saying with a smile, "It seems that you have already known it."
"When did it happen?" Matthew ask calmly, trying his best to suppress the fear in his heart.
"I don't know. I just found it out," Harper replied after a careful thought
Matthew was provoked by the indifferent attitude of Harper. He questioned at once, "Have youforgotten that you can't be..."
"I'm fine now." Harper took hold of Matthew's hand and smiled wickedly. "I have recovered when I gotthe inheritance of the Heavenly Books. The Death Pool was just another method to cure me. Yet, bothmethods were dangerous to me. Still, I lived through it. So, you are going to be a father, Matthew."
Matthew sat rooted to the spot in astonishment, and the only thought in his mind was that Harper'sbody had recovered. He didn't need to worry that his child would kill her wife, nor did he need to worrythat he would irritate her.
"I'm going to be a father!" Matthew felt a little unreal. When Douglas told him that he was going to be afather, he thought that he was just making fun of him. But when Harper told him that he was going to bea father in person, he felt incredible and happy.
Looking at the man who was in a daze, Harper smiled quietly and added, "Many happy events havehappened recently."
"Is there any other good news?" Matthew leaned over and asked with a big smile.
She raised a finger and answered, "It's a secret. I won't tell you now."novelbin
"You still have a secret hiding from me?" Matthew thought it was inconceivable. Now he came back tohis senses and realized the meaningful look in Rolando's eyes when Rolando left. Matthew's mindraced quickly. In Phoenix City, Harper didn't have much contact with many people. She said it was asecret. Therefore, he must be familiar with people related to the secret.
"The secret is about Darren?" he asked at once.
Harper's eyelid twitched. 'Who says women's sixth sense is very accurate? Men's sixth sense is alsovery terribly accurate. I said nothing. But he already knew that it has something to do with Darren.'
"Are you good at foretelling?" Harper felt it was unbelievable. If she hadn't known Rolando was withher, she would have thought that her husband had been with her all the time.
"Since you won't tell me the secret, I guess it is related to man. Also, as you are in this mansion all thetime, you can only meet a few men. There are only two men here; one is the city lord, Derrick, and theother is Darren. It seems that Darren woke up." Matthew gnashed his teeth slightly. Did Darren want torob Harper of him by taking the advantage of his injury?
Harper frowned. The sadness flashed on her face. She said in low voice that only the two of them couldhear, "Darren is dead. The people who is alive by Darren's body means a lot to me."
The word 'dead' was a bit surprising to Matthew. He couldn't figure out what Harper's words meant.Something must have been wrong.
"It seems that I haven't told you that I have an elder brother called Chad Chu," Harper said slowly. "Heis not from the Chu Clan of the Bright Dynasty, but the Chu Family of my last life."
Matthew clenched his fists subconsciously and asked, "Did he come here because he wants to takeyou back?"
"Don't be silly." Harper shook her head. "I came to this world, because I was dead in my last world. Iguess it may be the same reason that my brother was here."
Hearing her words, Matthew felt relieved. As long as Chad was not here to take Harper away, then hedidn't have to worry anymore. He said, "Then, I have to meet my brother-in-law."
Harper smiled broadly and said, "The top priority now is to develop the antidote for the Spiritual Poisonin his body. Otherwise, he will die."
"We don't have any clues about the man hidden in the dark yet. When you're making the antidote, hewon't sit back any longer," Matthew said softly. "We'll avenge Darren then."
