Chapter 952 Congratulations! (Part One)

After she came back from Darren's room, Harper's desire to create the antidote became fervent. Therewas a renewed determination inside of her to decipher how to get rid of the poison inside Darren'sbody.

Rolando, on the other hand, started observing Harper more closely, rarely taking his eyes off her. Tohim, her recent behaviors had been strange, especially the way she interacted with Darren—sheseemed to be particularly close to him. The moment she left his room, she couldn't help but smile. Itwas as if she was in an excellent mood despite what was happening.

As Rolando looked at the physicians helping Harper concoct an antidote, he signaled to her in theirsecret code, saying, "Harper, I know there's something wrong between you and Darren."

Harper didn't reply nor stop what she was doing. She didn't even look up at him. Rolando's words justflowed right through her, not ever reaching her.

Rolando knitted his eyebrows in confusion and continued signaling to her. "Harper, what if Matthewfinds out what happened today? Aren't you afraid that he may sneak into Darren's room tonight andend his life due to jealousy?"

Finally, Harper cast Rolando a glance. It was a stare so cold that even Rolando, who had put her underhouse arrest and had done a lot of things that hurt her, was taken aback. It was nothing he had seenbefore, which said a lot considering his already strained relationship with the woman.

"I won't allow anyone to hurt him. Remember, no one!" Harper hissed, stressing their secret code. 'NotRolando, not Matthew—no one would hurt the current Darren, who is Chad, my brother in my previouslife!' she thought. She was the only one who knew that the true Darren was already dead, and that thecurrent Darren was actually Chad, her brother of her last life. Anyone who dared hurt her belovedbrother would pay with his or her life!

Even though Rolando looked like he was intimidated by Harper's threatening, deep inside, he actuallywas extremely happy. Matthew was a very jealous man. If he found out that his wife cared aboutDarren so much, he would undoubtedly be outraged and rushed to kill Darren!

Rolando was extremely curious as to what would happen if an angry Matthew and steadfast Harperfought head-on

At that time, Matthew was interrogating Douglas in the dungeon. He knew that Harper, being somewhatrelated to everyone and all things of the Qin Clan, wouldn't be as cruel to them as he would be. Butsince he didn't have any feelings towards the Qin Clan, there was nothing stopping him to be asmerciless as he could be. And with that, he showed how cruel he could be to Douglas.

"Douglas, I'm not Harper. My patience is limited, and so is the mercy I feel in my heart. If you don't wantspend your remaining days worse than a dead person, you'd better tell me everything you know,"Matthew said coldly, his stare piercing and deadly. "And don't count on Felton to save you. He knew itwould be better for him to let me do my job."

As Douglas stared at the man threatening to kill him, he thought, 'No wonder Harper chose him! He isnot only heartless, but he is also good at hiding his monster nature!' Suddenly, an idea crossed hismind. "Matthew Jun, do you really love Harper?" he asked, a sneer on his lips. Yet, before he got anykind of answer, his painful screaming had already commenced.

His screams echoed throughout the dungeon. "Douglas, have I not made this whole thing clear?"Matthew snarled. "The only thing you need to do is to answer my questions. Never did I say that youare allowed to ask me any!"

Despite his condition, Douglas was still able to conjure the energy to laugh. "Want to hear some goodnews, Matthew?" he asked, his voice weak due to the pain he was feeling. There was an uncannymeaningful smile on his lips.

Matthew's eyes narrowed and said, "What?"

"Congratulations! You are going to be a father!" After a pause, Douglas went on, still sporting a vicioussmile. "But unfortunately, good news inevitably comes with bad one. So for you, this is it: you'll loseyour wife if you keep the baby. So, who would you save? Your wife or your baby?"novelbin

Matthew tried to recall everything he did with Harper. 'Impossible,' he thought, his face not showing anyemotion. He had never stopped taking the medicine that would prevent him from impregnating Harper.

"You are lying," Matthew replied after pondering on it for a while.

"Are you sure? Have you confirmed it with Harper in person?" Douglas spit out the blood in his mouthand continued, "Or ask Felton. I'm sure he already knew. And it's not just him. Most members of theQin Clan know of the situation, and they're definitely worried about it."

"What do you mean?"

"Because if Harper died, they couldn't get what they wanted. They will make every effort to get rid ofthe child, or, get what they want before her delivery of the baby!" Douglas laughed crazily. "Matthew, tell me, who do you want to keep, the child or the mother? If you choose to protect her, will she allowyou to harm her child? Do you think the others will agree if you keep the child?"

"Go to hell!" Matthew snapped and suddenly gripped Douglas by his throat. The latter's face turnedpale and livid, but he was still wearing a smile on his face. The Qin Clan took him as a pawn, andMatthew also wanted to use him. He wanted to see in the end, who would win among the three parties, the Qin Clan who had been hiding and plotting in the dark for more than twenty years, the ruthlessMatthew, or Harper who was skilled in weighing the pros and cons and scheming.

After a while, Matthew managed to calm himself down and didn't kill Douglas. Then, he fluttered hissleeves and left in a huff. He could have confirmed it with Felton about his wife's pregnancy first, but hewanted to ask her directly. So, he returned to the Phoenix City directly.
