Chapter 1754

Chapter 1754

Emily's heart fluttered at the sound of his voice, and she responded softly, "OK."

She set aside the files and drank half a glass of water to calm herself before heading out of the office.

As she expected, Charlie's car was parked outside the building.

Just as Emily was opening the back door, the man in the driver's seat said in a deep voice, "Come to

the front."

Surprised that he had driven himself, Emily moved to the passenger seat.

This was the first time they met after Charlie's drunken night. Seeing Charlie reminded Emily of whatnovelbin

he had said that night. She looked a bit out of sorts and didn't dare to look at him.

The silence inside the car was palpable. Charlie was tight-lipped and Emily didn't address a word

either.

After a while, Charlie said, "Are you really going to resign and join Horizon Enterprises?"

Eyes downcast, Emily nodded, "Yes."

There was a hidden coldness in Charlie's eyes, and his usually calm and composed face looked

serious, “Can't you see that Wilson has ulterior motives?"

Emily frowned and looked at him, “Not every man who approaches me has a crush on me!"

Charlie's tone deepened, "When have I ever been wrong?"

Emily thought about Martin and although she disagreed with Charlie, she bit her lip and remained

silent.

"So, even knowing he has feelings for you, you still want to work in his company and spend each day

with him?"

Charlie asked again.

Emily explained, "He doesn't have feelings for me. He explicitly told me that he likes Betty!"

“Emily Sullivan, this is just a trick men use to pursue women. Can't you see that?"

Emily retorted, "I don't know. Have you used this trick to pursue women before?"

Charlie was taken aback by her remark. He took a deep breath to suppress his emotions before saying

in a grim voice, "Leaving that aside, you've done half the work for the design I requested, and now

you're handing it over to someone else. Is this how you treat your clients?"

At the mention of this, Emily lowered her voice, feeling guilty, "I'm sorry!"

"Don't apologize. It's meaningless!" Charlie said in a deep voice, "Also, wasn't being a top-notch

designer your dream? Is designing buildings for Horizon Enterprises really what you aspire to?"

Emily's face turned pale and flushed successively, "Designing buildings is also part of my job. The firm

also takes such projects. Why can't I?"

Charlie turned his head sharply towards her, "You know very well why you're going to Horizon

Enterprises!"

Emily bit her lip, her voice hoarse, “Yes, I need to think carefully about every step I take. I can't afford to

make any mistakes. I'm not as noble or great as you think. I'm just an ordinary person. I need to live, to

earn money to support my family, to eat, to survive. The things you don't need to worry about are the

things I have to work hard for every day when I open my eyes. From the beginning, we were never in

the same world."

Charlie's pupils contracted, the deep pain in his eyes was evident as he looked at her.

Emily lowered her head, “Are you done lecturing, Mr. James? If so, I need to go back to work."

Charlie looked at her but didn't say anything.

Emily blinked away the tears welling up in her eyes and stepped out of the car.

Without looking back, she walked straight towards the company building.

Once she got into the elevator, she felt powerless. She leaned against the wall of the elevator and took

deep breaths. Even her fingertips were strained white.

Her phone buzzed, and she took it out. It was a WhatsApp message from Charlie.

[Don't go. Don't go to Wilson.]

Emily's hand trembled slightly as she held her phone. Her clear eyes slowly blurred.

When she got back to her desk, she sat there blankly without moving.

Edwina rolled her chair over, "Emily, what's wrong?"

Emily's lips were pale from her biting on them. She slowly shook her head, "Nothing."
