Chapter 1569

Chapter 1569

Mrs. James chuckled, "The little squirrel seems to have no manners."

"Well, that's probably because its mom didn't raise it right!" Kya commented, a bit miffed.

Mrs. James laughed so hard at her childish remark that her stomach hurt.

Half an hour later, Charlie came to find Kya. Mrs. James was still enjoying her time with Kya and said,

"You go about your business, I'll hang out with Kya."

"It's getting late. She should go home;’ Charlie smiled. "Oh, can't you bear to part with Kya after just a

little while?"

Mrs. James shot him a pretend-angry look. "If you had your own kids earlier, would | need to be so

crazy about other people's kids?"

Charlie just smiled, not saying a word.

Mrs. James remembered a question she had earlier and quietly asked Charlie, "Tell me the truth, is

Kya your secret love child?"

Charlie's smile faded slightly, "No."

Mrs. James was still persistent, "Even if she is, it's fine. How could | reject my own granddaughter?

Just tell me the truth, | promise | won't be mad!"

"It's really not! If she were my daughter, do you think I'd hide it from you?" Charlie said lightly, not

wanting to continue the conversation.

He turned towards Kya, who was crouching in the bushes, "Kya, time to go home!"

Kya turned to look at him, serious-faced, "Charlie, there's a ‘cuckoo' here."

Charlie bent down and saw an injured baby sparrow in the bushes.novelbin

Because Kya's nanny, Ms. Simmons, often imitated the sound of a cuckoo when telling stories, Kya

named all birds cuckoo.

"It probably fell from a tree." Charlie picked up the baby bird and noticed its leg was cut. It was shaking

in fear.

"What's wrong with the cuckoo?" Kya asked worriedly.

Mrs. James walked over and exclaimed in surprise, "Is there really a bird? Kya, this isn't a cuckoo. It's a

sparrow."

"It looks injured. I'll ask the hotel staff to bandage it up and feed it for a few days. It should survive;

Charlie said.

Mrs. James scoffed, "Give it up, it's just a sparrow. The hotel staff might agree to care for it to your

face, but they'll probably toss it out once you're gone. Why bother?"

Kya clung onto Charlie's hand tightly, "Don't throw the sparrow away! | don't want it to die!"

"Alright, we won't throw it away.’ Charlie smiled, "I'll ask the hotel staff to bring a cage, and we'll take

the sparrow home"

"Where are you going to take it?" Mrs. James asked thoughtfully, "Here's an idea. I'll take it home and

let Landon care for it. He's raised birds before."

Landon was the James family’s old butler, who enjoyed gardening and raising birds. He even once had

a turtle as a pet.

"Alright, then you take the sparrow home!" Charlie picked up Kya and asked a hotel waiter to bring a

cage for the bird.

The waiter quickly returned with a wooden box, perfect for the injured sparrow.

Kya watched as the sparrow was placed in the box and turned to discuss with Charlie. She wanted to

stay with the sparrow and didn't want anyone to take it away.

Charlie comforted her, "| don't have anyone at home to care for the sparrow. Let's let Mrs. James take it

home first. Once the Sparrow's injury heals, I'll bring it to you, okay?"

Mrs. James smiled, "Yes, once the sparrow is healed, I'll have someone deliver it to you."

Knowing she would see the sparrow again, Kya didn't make a fuss.

She watched as someone came to take the bird box away.

Charlie was about to take Kya to find Emily and told Kya to say goodbye to Mrs. James, "Say goodbye

to Mrs. James."

Kya waved her little hand, her voice cute and childish, "Bye, Mrs.

James!"

Mrs. James didn't know why she liked Kya so much. She felt an indescribable sense of reluctance. She

gave Kya another hug and lovingly said, "Come visit me often. I'll have someone make you good food."

Kya giggled happily.

Charlie carried Kya away, with Kya leaning on his shoulder, still giggling at Mrs. James.

Watching little Kya's adorable antics, Mrs. James felt an indescribable sense of emotion welling up

inside.
