Chapter 1567

Chapter 1567

Kya was knocked out cold under the sun. Using Charlie James's leg as a pillow, she snoozed away till

late afternoon when the engagement ceremony was about to kick off. Emily had shot them a couple of

texts asking where they were. Charlie texted her back,

[Kya's catching some z's, no worries.]

Unable to find them, Emily had no choice but to stick with Amiee.

The engagement ceremony was in full swing in the garden, and Charlie had a bird's-eye view from the

window. Josiah and Amiee were both heading towards each other from opposite sides of the flower-

lined walkway. Josiah took Amiee's hand and they slowly descended from the white steps under a

shower of flower petals. It was a picture-perfect romantic scene.

His gaze then shifted to Emily amongst the guests.

Her eyes were glued to Amiee. Under the setting sun, her face was glowing, her features were as if

they were painted, especially her eyes which were sparkling, filled with warmth and mirth.novelbin

Charlie couldn't take his eyes off her. His affection for her was plain as day to see.

As the sun dipped below the horizon and the engagement ceremony came to an end, people lingered

on the garden lawn, taking photos and dancing around the bonfire, while others headed to the banquet

hall for the feast.

Kya finally stirred. She was about to wake up.

Her eyes fluttered open and she was momentarily taken aback upon seeing Charlie, but then she broke

into a smile.

She looked so happy. Her smile was so pure!

Charlie felt a wave of warmth wash over him. Seeing how happy Kya was upon seeing him when she

woke up, he felt they were destined to be together.

"She's going to be my daughter!” he thought.

He scooped her up, making her giggle as his hand tickled her. She nestled against him, laughing.

"You sure love your beauty sleep. Are you hungry from sleeping too much?" Charlie asked gently with a

smile.

Kya looked up at him. "Where's Mommy?"

Charlie glanced downstairs, "Mommy is downstairs chatting with Estelle and others. Let's go find her."

"Okay!" Kya nodded, grinning.

Charlie fixed her hair a bit and picked her up, heading out.

Everyone was downstairs and only a few children were running around upstairs.

As they were going downstairs, Mrs. James was coming up.

Seeing Charlie, she asked, "Where have you been all afternoon?"

"| was just catching a quick nap upstairs,’ Charlie replied nonchalantly.

Mrs. James looked at the child in his arms, "Whose little girl is this?"

Charlie paused a bit before answering, "A friend's daughter."

"What a lovely child! She kind of reminds me of you when you were young, Mrs. James said

delightedly, "Whose child is she? When did you start babysitting?"

"You don't know her parents,’ Charlie replied.

Mrs. James looked at the child in his arms affectionately, "What's her name?"

Charlie looked at Kya with a soft smile, "Kya."

While they were talking, someone hurried over from downstairs,

"Mr. James, your grandfather has been looking for you. Some elder from B City has come over. He

wants you to see him."

Mrs. James said, "It must be your uncle. He rarely gets out. You should go see him right away.’

Charlie nodded, "I'll go right away.’

"Leave the child with me. You can come get her once you're done talking.”

Charlie was worried that Kya might be uncomfortable in a new environment, so he asked her gently,

"Would you like to play with

Mrs. James?"

Kya seemed to understand that Charlie had something to take care of, so she nodded obediently, "Mm-

hmm.'

"What a well-behaved child!" Mrs. James chuckled.

He handed Kya over to his mother, reminding her, "Please keep an eye on her. There are a lot of

guests and kids today. Make sure no one bumps into her. Also, Kya is allergic to peanuts. She can't

have anything with peanuts in it. That's very important!”

Mrs. James looked at Charlie, puzzled, "How do you know so much about this child?"
