Chapter 405

Chapter 405

Neil’s life lately had been a series of knocks and challenges, and his health has gone from bad to

worse,

Maja had already talked it over with the hospital doctors. Now, they were just keeping Neil alive on

medicines. Going back to the hospital wouldn’t do much good. The main thing was to avoid getting Neil

too worked up.

Out of nowhere, Neil suddenly spat up some blood.

Ferris and Hattie exchanged a look, their eyes gleaming with satisfaction.

They knew if Neil kicked the bucket, they’d be raking in the inheritance!

They watched as Maja walked up to Neil, calling a doctor on her phone while pulling out a DNA test

report to look at.

Hattie et out a sneer.

“You can shove off. This is a Pennyfeather family matter. You’ve got no business here.”

No sooner had she finished speaking than Maja called in the bodyguards from outside. “Kick these

lowlifes out!”

Hattie, fuming, picked up a teapot to throw, but Maja’s sharp gaze stopped her cold.

“If you throw that, I’ll have the guards teach you a lesson.”

Hattie froze in fear and quietly put the teapot back down.

Maja tried calming Neil down while waiting for the doctor to arrive,

The bodyguards had already escorted the intruders out.

Neil had been helped to the upstairs bedroom and laid on the bed, looking weaker than ever.

When the doctor arrived, he examined Neil and suggested he get more rest.

Maja handed the doctor samples of her own hair and Neil’s.

“I need another DNA test done. Please get it to me ASAP.”

“Okay.”

As Maja came downstairs, she saw the maid cleaning up the blood Neil had spat up. The food on the

table had gone cold. Just then, a delivery guy showed up.

“Ms. Pennyfeather, this is a birthday present from your husband.”

Her husband? lan?

Maja wasn’t in the best mood. She’d been wondering, if she wasn’t really Neil’s daughter, then where

was her real family? She accepted the delivery, a part of her getting a bit hopeful about the gift.

It was a natural response. After all, it was her birthday.

But when she saw the cold, complicated divorce agreement, she couldn’t help but feel it was a bit

ironic.

On her 24th birthday, she receives a DNA test and a divorce agreement. It was all turning into a

dramatic.

She and lan agreed they would divorce once lan’s grandfather recovered.

So lan sending her a divorce agreement on her birthday, was that his way of telling her not to get any

ideas? He really couldn’t stand his wife in name only.

She thought for a moment, then texted lan from her personal number.

“Thanks for the gift. I love it.”

lan saw the text, knew it was from his wife in name only, and didn’t want to reply.

It wasn’t until he finished dealing with a pile of paperwork that he finally sent a response.

“Know your place.

Maja was sitting in the grand hall of the Pennyfeather family mansion. The DNA test had thrown her for

a loop.

She heard the notification sound on her phone and picked it up to check it.

She was about to reply when Holden called again.

“Maja, did lan get you a birthday present?”

“Yes, he did. I love it. How are you feeling?”

Holden seemed to have caught a cold and started coughing.

“I’m much better now. I wanted you and lan come home for dinner, but I don’t want to risk getting you

sick. I’ve put some money in your bank account. You can go buy something nice.”

Maja felt a lump in his throat, and tears welled up in his eyes, but Holden didn’t notice.

“Thank you.”

After hanging up, she received a notification from the bank. She had received a deposit of two million

US dollars.

Holden had always been generous to her. But given her agreement with lan and the divorce agreement

lan had sent, she figured Holden must be disappointed.

She took a deep breath and waited. By evening, six hours later, the new DNA test results had finallynovelbin

arrived.

Seeing that the test showed no blood relation between her and Neil, she walked into the bedroom

where Neil was lying.

Neil was awake. His hair was completely white, and he looked even more tired now.

“Maja.”

He called her softly. “Don’t worry about what Ferris told you. You must be my daughter.”

Maja felt a pang of pain, handed over the new DNA test results, took a deep breath, and placed them

in front of him. “I did another DNA test.”

Neil said nothing. He took the report with trembling hands. When he saw the results, his eyes

immediately welled For a moment, Maja thought she saw new wrinkles appear on his face.

“Perhaps, I should let Tricia out of jail.”

After all, Tricia was truly Neil’s daughter.

Neil didn’t say anything. He clung tightly to the DNA test results.

A man in his fifties, he looked as helpless as a child.

Maja felt a deep sense of sorrow.

After a moment of silence, Neil finally spoke.

“Even if I let Tricia out, the Pennyfeather company will still end up in your hands. I will give Tricia a 20%

share.”

Neil’s words made Maja feel even colder.

up

with tears.

He believed she could bring the Pennyfeather group back to life. If the Pennyfeather group could be

revived, Tricia’s 20% share could become very valuable.

In other words, Maja was just someone who worked for the Pennyfeather group.
