Chapter 404

Chapter 404

After Carol and Maja happily polished off the cake, Carol took off.

Maja slept alone till dawn, then headed over to the Penny feather family’s mansion to hang out with

Coco.

She’d suggested that Neil stay in the hospital a bit longer, but he hauled his ass back today, saying he

wanted to celebrate her birthday with her.

Back then, having her dad around for her birthday always made Maja happy as a clam.

But now, they just stared at each other, and all they had was an awkward silence.

Today, Neil had the cook whip up some extra delicious dishes.

On the flip side, Ferris was down in the dumps after his failure with Maja last time. He couldn’t stomach

it.

The mere thought of his two sons not having stable jobs while Neil was living in such a grand mansion

made him green with envy.

He then told Hattie Zimmer, “Mom, don’t you think Maja and Neil don’t look alike at all? Her face is so

darn noticeable. Who knows which man Lillian hooked up with to have her.”

Hattie Zimmer’s eyes popped, “What are you implying?”

“I suspect Maja isn’t Neil’s daughter, probably Lillian’s child with some other guy. After I left that day, I

snagged some of her hair to get a paternity test with Neil.”

Ferris looked gloomy as hell.

“If Maja isn’t Neil’s kid, and now with Cristina and Tricia Pennyfeather in hot water and Glenn

Pennyfeather practically a vegetable, my son would be next in line to inherit the Pennyfeather family’s

fortune.”

Hattie’s eyes turned red with excitement. She didn’t expect Ferris to be playing the long game.

“So, did the test results come out?”

“Should be any time now.”

No sooner had he spoken than someone knocked on the door, the hospital had sent over the paternity

test results. novelbin

Ferris tore open the report in anticipation, seeing the line that said there was no paternal relation, his

cheeks flushed with excitement, and his fingers clenched.

“I knew it! That woman really isn’t Neil’s daughter! Let’s head over to the Pennyfeather family’s place

right now!”

Hattie and Abram got up excitedly, ready to roll out.

It was noon, and the servants at the Pennyfeather mansion were about to serve lunch.

Maja planned to have lunch with Neil, then head over to the Greenfield Gardens construction site.

But soon, the doorbell rang. It was the Pennyfeathers.

Seeing them, Neil’s face fell, and he coughed twice.

Hattie wanted to manipulate Maja, but she knew she had to get a handle on Neil first, so she had to

tread carefully.

“Neil, you’re living the high life now, don’t forget about me.”

Neil’s face hardened, “What are you here for?”

Just as he finished speaking, Hattie slapped him across the face.

Neil had just left the hospital. The slap almost made him cough up blood.

Ferris played the good cop, “Mom, let it go. Let’s just say what we came here to say.”

Maja, seeing them making a scene, was about to call security.

Hattie pointed at her in excitement.

“I knew it. You unfaithful woman doesn’t look like a Pennyfeather at all. Turns out you’re not Neil’s

daughter, not my granddaughter, you have no relation with the Pennyfeathers. You can leave now! I

don’t know who your parents are. You’re just a kid with a shady background!”

“Enough!”

Neil, hearing this, slammed the table.

Hattie, hands on hips, tossed the paternity test at him.

“The one who should shut up is you! Who knows which man Lillian hooked up with? You’ve been

raising her daughter all these years. You’re a damn fool!”

Neil was shaking all over. He picked up the scattered paternity test from the floor.

Ferris tried to soothe him, “I used your hair for the test. You must’ve suspected it all along, right? Maja

doesn’t look like you at all.”

Neil didn’t say a word, just held onto the paternity test.

Ferris felt a weight lift off his shoulders. He and Hattie both turned to Maja.

“You can leave now. This is not where you belong!”

Maja looked at the paternity test in disbelief, even thinking it might be tampered with.

But with Hattie and Ferris bold enough to barge in like this, and the likelihood of adulteration was very

low.

Ferris had already walked up to Neil.

“For the sake of you being my brother, I’ll adopt one of my sons to you. I heard Tricia’s been jailed too.

Why not set her free? She might be your only daughter in this world.”

Neil didn’t respond, his eyes rolled back, and he passed out.
